Carmen Sandiego's Catwoman Costs VILE Its Most Important Heist

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Carmen Sandiego Season 4, now streaming on Netflix.

Netflix's fourth and final season of Carmen Sandiego brings a few old thieves back for Carmen to face. That's because V.I.L.E. (Villains International League of Evil) is looking to take the Crimson Ghost out after discovering clues to a treasure their predecessors left behind. But just when they're about to finish this most important heist, the villains botch the job, and it's all due to the selfish and insubordinate nature of the usually competent Tigress.

V.I.L.E. discovers a trail from Norway to Turkey to India that can gift them the loot the original members stole. This sinister society was started by five medieval thieves from different continents, and as a unit, they stole from all over the world. But they didn't want to leave their inheritance to a group that wasn't worthy. Sure, the name could be passed down like a mantle, but this treasure chest deserved to be owned by brilliant minds.

As a result, V.I.LE. races against Carmen's team, hunting clues so they can unlock the final location for the billion-dollar haul, which includes gold, trinkets, gems and all sorts of invaluable relics from the last few centuries. V.I.L.E. end up in Egypt, but at a pyramid in Giza, Carmen finds them. She tracked down Julia — the former A.C.M.E. (Agency to Classify and Monitor Evildoers) agent who hunted her in the past — after Julia was forced to decode glyphs.

It's a tense standoff though, as Countess Cleo has Julia hostage, threatening to drop her into a pit unless Carmen throws her a key needed to unlock the rest of the treasure. Eventually, Cleo succeeds in her mission but she really didn't count on Tigress messing up that one job. Tigress was tasked with taking out Julia's former partner, Chase, who's now working with Carmen and hoping A.C.M.E can see her worth as an ally. As they fight, Tigress gets the upper-hand, coming off really cocky, which isn't a surprise as she's a much better fighter. But with Chase down, rather than kill him or take him to Cleo, she gets distracted. She spots shimmers in a sarcophagus, purrs and heads over to see if it's diamonds she can secretly pocket.

Tigress loves kitty jokes and stealing in the dark, and this scene is another nod towards Catwoman. The show's never been shy of using Tigress — who has a Seline Kyle attitude — to allude to the DC hero.

When Tigress approaches the shimmers, she's keen on a personal lift. Sadly, these are scarabs with shiny shells. As she freaks out due to a fear of bugs, Chase pushes and locks her in the box. She's left screaming and petrified inside, allowing Chase to storm the main chamber.

There, as he spots Carmen and Julia subdued, Carmen does the unthinkable and tells him to phone home, as she knows he can't battle all these enemies. He uses his holographic pen and calls the Chief, who sees the brawl and realizes Carmen is on their side. Understanding they have to live to fight another day, Cleo's hauled away by her minions, knowing they could never move this amount of treasure in just a couple hours. It truly breaks her as this is their legacy — something they devoted their lives towards. But thanks to Tigress deviating from the mission, it's taken by the authorities.

Starring Gina Rodriguez and Finn Wolfhard, all four seasons of Carmen Sandiego are available to stream on Netflix now.
