The official synopsis for Season 1, Episode 1, reads,

A year after rescuing Catherine Martin from the horror of Buffalo Bill’s basement, FBI Agent Clarice Starling gets an urgent assignment from Catherine’s mother, Attorney General Ruth Martin (Jayne Atkinson), to join the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (VICAP) in the investigation of three serial killings, on the series premiere of CLARICE, Thursday, Feb. 11 (10:00–11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The synopsis was released about two weeks after the first official trailer for Clarice debuted. The trailer was revealed that Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) has been living in fear in Washington D.C. following the traumatic events of her case involving serial killers Buffalo Bill and Hannibal Lecter. However, Clarice is asked to live up to her reputation "for hunting monsters" by returning to her hometown in West Virginia, to investigate the case of a murdered young woman.

The CBS sequel won't feature any storylines or references to the Lecter character due to copyright disputes between MGM studio and The Dino De Laurentiis company. Instead, Clarice will center on the titular character's relationships with characters developed by Silence of the Lambs author Thomas Harris that did not previously appear in NBC’s Hannibal series which includes her colleague Ardelia Mapp (Devyn Tyler), Deputy Assistant Attorney General Paul Krendler (Michael Cudlitz) and the late serial killer, Buffalo Bill.

The Silence of the Lambs spinoff series will also explore the previously male-dominated world of law enforcement, as well as follow a fictionalized version of the FBI as it deals with the aftermath of real-life disasters, such as Waco and Ruby Ridge and the first World Trade Center bombing.

Clarice stars Rebecca Breeds as Clarice Starling, Michael Cudlitz as Paul Krendler, Lucca de Oliveira as Tomas Esquivel, Kal Penn as Shaan Tripathi, Nick Sandow as Agent Clarke, Devyn Tyler as Ardelia Mapp and Marnee Carpenter as Catherine Martin. The series premieres on Feb. 11 at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT on CBS and CBS All Access.
