Servant: [SPOILER]'s Return May Doom Sean and Dorothy | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Servant Season 2, Episode 2, "Spaceman," which aired Friday on Apple TV+.

Servant's second season is all about mind games, with the Turners trying to get closer to the Church of the Lesser Saints. This scheming culminates in Dorothy (Lauren Ambrose) going on the news to out Leanne (Nell Tiger Free) as a missing person so the public can help spot her and baby Jericho. However, it's a risky gamble, as Leanne and her cult hold all the trump cards. There's a ray of hope, though, when private investigator Roscoe returns to the family. But while Sean (Toby Kebbell) and Julian (Rupert Grint) think his info and overall presence might be the key to unlocking this haunting puzzle, it may actually doom the household.

Somehow, Roscoe reappears in his car nine days later after Jericho's abduction, not realizing he went missing too. Sean and Julian eventually use Natalie's hypnosis to unlock hidden memories of what seems to be an occult ritual, offering a baby to a dark overlord as a sacrifice. Sean is hopeful, thinking this is the lead the family needs to track the cult down.

However, this information might not be life-saving, as Roscoe's return is suspicious. The Church of the Lesser Saints specializes in infiltration, as evidenced by members also being prominent citizens. This means George and May, the cult's leaders, could have sent Roscoe back as a trojan horse. Since they could have kept or killed him, sending Roscoe back is really suspicious, especially as they let him go with his phone, which Sean and Julian want to glean clues from. It's just too obvious and sloppy a mistake to make.

George has also been known to control animals and he, as well as May, might have powers that allow them to influence others. Thus, they could have brainwashed Roscoe and sent him back. If this is the case, Sean and Julian are actually playing into the Church of the Lesser Saint's hands, especially since there's no guarantee Roscoe's memories are even real.

There are a number of reasons George and May may be manipulating Roscoe. By doing so, they might be attempting to convince the Turners that Jericho is dead and to give up the search. They might also be trying to scare them off by making them hear of demonic practices. However, the best explanation is that Roscoe, as an unwitting double agent, could be listening in and getting all of the Turners plans. Through Roscoe, the Church of the Lesser Saints will know just what the Turners are aiming to do, which will allow them to dictate what happens on Servant's supernatural battlefield.

Starring Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, Nell Tiger Free and Rupert Grint, the second season of Servant airs every Friday on Apple TV+.
