Titans' Barbara Gordon Stunt Video Reveals Oracle's Weapons | CBR

Titans newcomer, Savannah Welch (aka Barbara Gordon) showed off her ex-Batgirl moves during a stunt training session for her character's Season 3 debut.

While filming of the third season is expected to continue into the summer of 2021, a behind-the-scenes video was posted to Twitter with the caption "Savannah Welch already finished for the 3rd season with the stunt team." In the video, Welch can be seen intercepting an attack from an unidentified baddie with what appears to be a soft, practice prototype of a club. While it could be a substitute for a baseball bat or some other type of improvised weapon, Barbara Gordon is known to use specialized escrima sticks in various comics similar to those used by Nightwing. Welch skillfully disarms the attacker while sitting in a folding chair, which is no doubt a place-holder for the wheelchair her character will be using.

Titans' Barbara Gordon seems to be based on Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's version of the character from Batman: The Killing Joke. In the 1988 DC graphic novel, Gordon is shot and paralyzed by the Joker, thus ending her role as Bat-family vigilante, Batgirl. However, this would not stop her crime-fighting career. She reestablishes her superhero persona as Oracle, a technical expert and computer wizard who would work as Batman's eyes and ears in Gotham and with Black Canary as a member of the Birds of Prey.

The HBO MAX television series plans to introduce Gordon as working to combat evil within the law, taking over the position her father once held as Gotham City Police Commissioner. It will also explore Gordon's past romantic and professional relationship with Titan's leader Dick Grayson / Nightwing. The initiation of Welch's character to the cast was announced at DC FanDome's Titans panel at the same time as Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow's.

Titans stars Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson, Anna Diop as Kory Anders, Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth, Ryan Potter as Garfield Logan, Curran Walters as Jason Todd and Conor Leslie as Donna Troy, with Minka Kelly as Dawn Granger, Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall, Joshua Orpin as Superboy, Chelsea Zhang as Rose Wilson, Chella Man as Jericho, Drew Van Acker as Aqualad, Esai Morales as Deathstroke, Savannah Welch as Barbara Gordon and Iain Glen as Bruce Wayne. The first two seasons are streaming now on HBO Max.
