While the eerie choking scene in the first episode of WandaVision, "Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience", took some time for actor Debra Jo Rupp to nail, she loved performing it.
"Well, first of all, it was the most fun thing I've ever done, ever, ever, ever," Rupp said when asked about the scene in an interview with Collider. "It was doing two things at once. It was very challenging, which I loved, and the director was extremely patient because I kept going, "Wait, what? You want me to do what? No, I don't get it. Wait, what?"
The actor went on to explain that once she got the hang of things, she kept wanting to do more takes because of how much fun it was to film. "Also, I knew where it fit in the episode and I knew it was pretty much the first crack, so that was very exciting," Rupp added.
The scene showed Fred Melamed's Arthur Hart choking on a piece of food, as Rupp's Mrs. Hart continuously said, "Stop it." It was a surreal and disturbing moment that shocked many viewers, and also dropped a strong hint that Wanda and Vision's suburban life is not what it seems. Additionally, the end of the episode would reveal that someone had been watching Wanda and Vision on a TV.
Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
