Marvel Studios/Disney+'s anticipated television series WandaVision premiered on Disney+ on Jan. 15. WandaVision follows Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) living in the town of Westview, following sitcom-based scenarios that warp their reality.
Olsen's real life twin sisters -- Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen -- famously shared the role of Mary-Kate in the 1987 sitcom Full House. Although the show alludes to Full House, director Matt Shakman explained to Variety why he didn't ask the twins to cameo.
"For us, we were faithfully recreating the style of the shows with authenticity," Shakman said. "It wasn’t about parody or homage or spoof. It really was about telling the story of Wanda and Vision. And so, for that reason, we were focusing on our characters who are the best actors to bring those characters to life, rather than trying to find a way to have Bob Newhart pop by."
However, despite the lack of a cameo from the Olsen Twins, WandaVision will still reference Full House in an unknown way. The reality-warping series' official synopsis reads,
Marvel Studios' "WandaVision" blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) -- two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives -- begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems. The new series is directed by Matt Shakman; Jac Schaeffer is head writer.
Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
