Many characters have giant robots, supernatural abilities, or high-tech weapons at their disposal in the world of shonen and seinen anime. Some of these combat styles have become the stuff of legend, from the Kameamea to the Rasengan. One of the flashier anime powers is setting off explosions to blow one's enemies away.
It's usually the villains or rogueish heroes who use explosive powers, and these characters often have short, explosive tempers to match (or they might have a cool disposition for contrast). Which explosion-based characters are the best overall? Factoring in their cool costumes, firepower, battlefield tactics, or sheer charm, ten particular explosion users stand out from the pack.
10 Megumin Of The Crimson Demon Clan (Konosuba)
The explosive young witch known as Megumin is arguably the best character in this entire parody isekai series, or at least, Best Girl. She knows exactly one spell, Explosion, and will use it to determine the situation that calls for it.
Megumin is determined to impress the witch who taught her such magic, and she won't stop practicing her boom-tastic craft until she can create the biggest detonations in the world. Kazuma and the others can hardly keep up.
9 Mr. 5, The Baroque Works Agent (One Piece)
Like many characters in this zany pirate anime, Mr. 5 of the Baroque Works organization is a flamboyant and energetic character who has a unique devil fruit power. Mr. 5 wields the Boom-Boom Fruit, which allows him to turn any part of his body, even his exhalations, into explosives.
Mr. 5 is a minor villain in the grand scheme of things compared to Doflamingo or Captain Blackbeard. Still, he was an interesting villain for a time, especially given how he could breathe into a revolver and fire six explosive bullets at his enemies. He gave Usopp a real challenge, that's for sure.
8 Bambietta Basterbine, The Quincy (Bleach)
There's a good reason why this Quincy archer has "bam" in her name. As one of the 26 Sternritters, Bambietta Basterbine has strong spirit energy that can either form a bow or form explosive devices.
Bambietta would rather use her explosive power than ordinary Quincy bows in battle, and she can turn any object into an explosive device. She met her match, though, when she faced a rather determined Captain Sajin Komamura.
7 Guila, The Holy Knight (The Seven Deadly Sins)
Guila is a Holy Knight, and she was first introduced as an antagonist to the hero, Meliodas, and his gang. She is a skillful fighter, and like her peers, Guilda can use unique magic. When Guilda gets serious, it's time to blow something up.
Guilda can flick her rapier in battle to toss explosives at her enemies, and even the titanic Diane is hard-pressed to defend against these detonations. If need be, Guila can also use her power to create mines.
6 Azuma, The Dark Wizard (Fairy Tail)
Azuma, the wizard, appeared in the Tenrou Island arc as a member of the notorious Grimoire Heart dark guild. He faced Erza Scarlet in single combat and almost won, which says a lot about his abilities.
Azuma can rapidly grow many trees to constrict his enemies, and he can also channel magical energy to set off explosions that damage the ground. Erza sure had her hands full with this one.
5 Combustion Man, The Silent Firebender (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
Sokka tried to dub this silent killer "sparky boom man," but at the last moment, he changed it to "combustion man," which is certainly an improvement. Just who is he? Little is known of Combustion Man, except that he is an unusual Firebender hired by Zuko to take out Aang's squad (until Zuko changed his mind).
Combustion Man has a metal arm and leg, but he's no martial artist. Instead, he will use that eye-like tattoo on his forehead to create remote explosions, posing a serious threat to the Gaang. He was finally defeated at the Western Air Temple, falling to his death.
4 Deidara Of The Akatsuki (Naruto)
Deidara belongs to the villainous Akatsuki organization, and he and his partner Sasori managed to capture Gaara of the Sand and drag him back to the Akatsuki hideout. Deidara combines earth and fire release to fuel his unique brand of jutsu: explosive clay.
Any ninja can use explosive tags in battle, but Deidara pushes things to the next level. He can make tiny clay animals take the enemy by surprise, then blow them up. Or, Deidara can soar around on a clay bird and toss his explosives anywhere he likes from that vantage point.
3 Katsuki Bakugo, AKA King Explosion Murder (My Hero Academia)
Katsuki Bakugo is a rather gifted boy, though that nasty attitude holds him back. He inherited the right combination of Quirks from his parents to make an explosive Quirk, where he sweats nitroglycerin and sets it off with sparks.
This power has propelled Bakugo to the upper ranks of the U.A.'s student population, and Katsuki is fiercely determined to become #1. In the anime, he sees Shoto Todoroki and Izuku Midoriya as his primary rivals.
2 Solf J. Kimblee, The Red Lotus Alchemist (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Some state alchemists have a heart, such as the brawny Major Alex Louis Armstrong, while Solf J. Kimblee is a battlefield maniac. He loves to set off powerful detonations with his alchemy, and to him, the sound of exploding, crumbling buildings is like music. He's quite twisted.
If that weren't enough, Kimblee has a sinister aura about him, and he can use his gentlemanly charms to trick people into helping him. He is also a skilled tracker, pursuing the elusive Scar all the way up north, near Fort Briggs.
1 Yoshikage Kira, Who Wants To Live A Quiet Life (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)
As an anime villain, Yoshijkage Kira has it all. This brutal serial killer has a deceptive but stylish appearance, being a David Bowie lookalike with colorful suits and cold eyes. He has the uncanny ability to vanish into crowds.
Yoshikage Kira is a fascinating but bone-chilling villain, having a habit of stalking and killing women, then chopping off and "dating" their severed hands. It's a sick but intriguing schtick, and to top it all off, Yoshikage has the Stand called Killer Queen, which can turn anything (even his opponent's body) into an explosive. He later combined this power with the Cat plant Stand to make air bombs, and he also learned to use Bites the Dust, a time-reversing power that can set off an explosion if the correct conditions are met.
