Attack On Titan: 5 Avatar Characters Who Could Survive A Titan Assault (& 5 Who Can't)

The fall of Shiganshina heralded an era of darkness in the Attack On Titan universe. Complacent through peace and grossly unprepared for the monsters that lurked behind the wall, many innocent civilians were massacred in the initial attack, and many more fell in the suicide mission to reclaim lost territory.

However, where some perished, others might succeed. Through placing characters of the Avatar universe in the same situation Eren and his friends faced on their notoriously life changing day, it can be accurately determined how deadly the massacre unleashed by Reiner and Bertholdt actually was.

10 Would Not Survive: Mai

Mai's mastery of weapons and intimate combat prowess (proven via her battle against Sokka and Katara) make her a formidable survivor and assassin. She is skilled enough to navigate many of her battles against bending adversaries, possessing much of Ty Lee's agility and balancing it with her arsenal.

However, what she possesses in deftness is palpably lacking in mobility. Without the means to pierce a titan's skin— since she could not hike up their bodies— and without any option to expedite her escape, she would be easy prey to the giants' waiting clutches.

9 Would Survive: Tenzin

A naturally gifted bender and the seasoned leader of the Air Nomads, Tenzin's skills were proven through his fight with Zaheer. He can summon powerful gusts of wind to significantly hinder his opponents or propel himself in any direction.

Though he may not be able to explicitly fly without his custom tailored uniform, the locomotives he can muster may elevate him above rooftops in seconds. This would provide him a tremendous advantage in staying out of the titans' rapacious reach and finding shelter, especially if he races along Shiganshina's buildings. Further, his battle experience would serve as another major asset to guarantee his success, having years of experience under Aang's tutelage.

8 Would Not Survive: Hiroshi Sato

Hiroshi Sato's expansive knowledge of machinery entails that he might stand a respectable chance against the titans. When submerged inside a platinum suit of armor, he is able to withstand brutal physical attacks, retaliating with grappling hooks and electricity alike.

He has two shortcomings that would guarantee his downfall. In addition to his contraption's relatively sloppy motions (as it struggles to make sharp turns, for instance), the glass cockpit provides his adversaries a target to exploit. Should they topple his drone and breach it, he would be powerless to stop them from eating him.

7 Would Survive: Toph Beifong

Toph has numerous advantages that would entail her success in escaping from the titans. Not only can she create impregnable physical barriers to slow their advance (except for the occasional abnormal), she is also able to surf across the ground at unprecedented speeds to create a clean getaway.

Aside from her earthbending, another conducive facet to her success is of her superb hearing and sensitivity. Should any titan lurk nearby, Beifong would be the first to detect them, purchasing her more of an opportunity to flee than many of her constituents.

6 Would Not Survive: Amon

Against most foes, Amon's bloodbending and skills as a warrior make him virtually undefeatable. However, it would not be nearly as effective against the titans on account of their raw size. Considering that his unique power is beatable through its victim's raw physical strength (proven through his encounter against Mako), it follows that he shouldn't be able to hinder any of his towering pursuers even momentarily.

Moreover, since Shiganshina scarcely has any water to speak of (except for the river leading past the wall itself), he would have virtually no means of accelerating his escape. Amon's demise is on account of his insufficient mobility and, in this instance, useless bending.

5 Would Survive: General Kuvira

An intelligent and skillful bender, Kuvira's charisma in leading others and ruthlessness in pursuing objectives would both provide essential assets for her survival. Under the stipulation that she isn't able to operate the massive drone from the end of the forth season, she can manipulate the metal adorning her body and use it to ricochet around her opponents.

In theory, this entails that she could throw an armband behind a titan, sharpen it into a blade, and recall it back to her, effectively vanquishing her quarry and guaranteeing her safety.

4 Would Not Survive: Unalaq

Unalaq suffers from many of Amon's limitations. His waterbending isn't particularly useful on account of the region's limited supply, and he would not be able to attempt freezing his opponents in place due to his absence of blood manipulation.

Further, he isn't even a talented warrior without Vaatu's blessing. The Northern Water Tribe leader scarcely managed to stave off Bolin and Mako until his children arrived, evincing his complete incompetence in battle without a staggering advantage outside of his own inherent merits.

3 Would Survive: Azula

Azula has proven to be extremely agile through her battles against Aang and his allies. She was able to leap off a massive, crumbling platform and onto safety, even seizing a nearly branch to break her fall after a narrow brush with Zuko and proving the speed at her disposal.

Further, she can use her firebending to compliment her mobility, propelling her forward in a blazing inferno. Though this may cause a safety hazard for Shiganshina's other denizens on account of the wide radius it occupies, the Fire Nation princess has never sincerely considered the wellbeing of others as a relevant priority.

2 Would Not Survive: Admiral Zhao

Zhao was a moderately skilled firebender and a grizzled general of Ozai's armies. Instead of wielding terrifying power like those who would succeed him, his greatest gift was in his ability to command the soldiers under his charge.

Considering that his rank is meaningless to the Eldians and the incorrigible state of panic he would find them in, his inability to order others would significantly debilitate his odds of survival. Since firebending itself isn't particularly useful against his opponents due to their notoriously thick skin, he would quickly find himself inside a titan's gullet - a fate worse than his canon demise.

1 Would Survive: Aang

Aang's power had only increased through the duration of the series, eventually becoming the single most capable character. His most straightforward means of success would be through retreating on his glider, whisking himself to safety with the assistance of his bending.

Failing his reliable tool, he is able to ride on a sphere of wind in its absence for a similar result. In the unlikely occasion that the titans' speed surpasses his own, he could stave their approach through creating a dense earthen wall in seconds redolent to how he contained the beasts of Ba Sing Se's zoo.
