Bong Joon-ho Says Parasite's Sequel Script Is Finished | CBR

Director and writer Bong Joon-ho spent 2020 working on two follow-up projects to 2019's Parasite. While Joon-ho hasn't called the projects sequels to the Oscar-winning film, he has linked them to Parasite. Now, the director confirmed one script is finished.

"It feels like I’m splitting my brain in half left and right writing these two scripts," Joon-ho said on The Director's Cut podcast with director Rian Johnson. "But I finished one last week."

Although the details of the completed project are being kept under wraps by Joon-ho, he confirmed that one script is written in Korean whereas the other is written in English. The director didn't confirm which script was finished. However, he clarified some storyline details, noting, "The Korean film is located in Seoul and has unique elements of horror and action."

He added, "It’s difficult to define the genre of my films. The English project is a drama film based on a true event that happened in 2016. Of course, I won’t know until I finish the script, but it has to be set half in the U.K. and half in the U.S."

Parasite has won several awards, including the Oscar for 2019's Best Film and Best Screenplay. Its script was co-written by Han Jin-won and Bong Joon-ho and the story's genre lived in a realm between horror, drama, comedy and thriller.
