Superman & Lois' Super Sons Are Different Than Typical TV Teens

Jonathan and Jordan Kent aren't your typical TV teens. During Superman & Lois' TCA panel, stars Jordan Elsass and Alex Garfin broke down the Super Sons' relationship, teased how their brotherly bond will continue to grow and revealed what separates their characters from other teenagers on TV.

"I think what's really cool about Jordan and Jonathan's relationship in the show is you get this dynamic where they're totally wildly different, right? Polar opposites. But they're the exact same age," Elsass explained. "They're twin brothers, they're fraternal twins. They're growing up the exact same time, so they can bond over the fact that they're kind of sharing some very similar experiences, maybe with girls at school, with their friends."

"Whatever it might be, they're going through the same kind of stuff as they grow up and they bond more and they become closer," he continued. "As the show goes on, I think we'll see more and more of that bonding and that closeness between them, because I think that's definitely something that's a really important element."

Garfin agreed, saying, "If I may add, it was one of our first conversations that we had, is how do we make these brothers love each other? In my own experience with my brother, and I've heard the same from Jordan [Elsass] here, we get into fights, we can hate each other sometimes, but it's built on a very deep and wide foundation of love. Especially in a family that's as complete as this one, with two parents that love each other and two parents that love their kids."

"To just piggyback off of that, the word of the day so far has been grounded," Elsass pitched in. "I think that's something that's really important is that, not only is it just between the brothers, but the entire Kent family relationship is very real and raw and tangible, and it's very grounded. It's what kind of brings the show to life in some ways, and I think brings that element of it to life. It's nice."

"It was great to have an opportunity to express teenagers in a more mature light than is often found, of them just lashing out and this and that," Garfin said. "When I saw the writing initially, I was just so happy to see intelligence written in the characters, and part of that is the love. I think hopefully people will relate to that when they see it. Even Indi [Navarrette, who plays Sarah Cushing] can speak on this as well, our other fellow teenager here."

"To see it from Sarah's perspective, it's really beautiful seeing the boys. They really do act like brothers on-screen and off-screen. It's really amazing seeing that. Very annoying," Navarrette added to a round of laughter. "No, it's really beautiful to see that they bond, and the fact that I know that they didn't really know each other beforehand, and then just the bond that they've created, not only through the characters, but just being best friends. It's really, really beautiful to see from a third-party perspective."

On The CW's Superman & Lois, Tyler Hoechlin reprises his Supergirl role as the Man of Steel alongside Elizabeth Tulloch, who plays the intrepid Lois Lane. When a family emergency brings them back to Smallville, Lois and Clark decide to raise their twin sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) and Jordan (Alex Garfin) there, only to find new adversaries in Wolé Parks' The Stranger and Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner). Then, as the boys begin to display some spectacular abilities, life gets even more complicated for the Kents and their new hometown.

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Dylan Walsh, Alex Garfin, Jordan Elsass, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Inde Navarrette and Wolé Parks. The series premieres Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
