Falcon and Winter Soldier Will Show Bucky's Funny Side | CBR

Aaron Tomey, stunt double for The Falcon and the Winter Solider star Anthony Mackie, revealed in an interview that Mackie’s co-star Sebastian Stan will be able to flex his comedy stylings more as Bucky Barnes in the upcoming Disney+ superhero action series.

In an interview with YouTuber SUPES, Tomey was asked what it was like to work on set with the upcoming Marvel show’s leads, Mackie and Stan. "I’ve known them both for a while now," Tomey responded. "Seb’s hilarious. He plays this stoic guy, but what’s great is that we’re getting to see another side of him." Tomey went on to say that Stan’s on-set humor will be reflected moreso in the character of Bucky in the series than anytime so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "That’s the sort of Seb I know on set," he continued. "He’s very dry, but he’s also super quick and funny."

Tomey alluded to a scene from the trailer that aired alongside the Super Bowl in which Bucky appears exasperated after asking Falcon what the plan is, only for him to ignore the question and jump out of the plane that they are sharing. The trailer broke the record for the highest-viewed streaming series trailer in the first 24 hours. "He’s still playing Bucky, but that’s the sort of, you’re getting to see a character now," he concluded. "He’s not just this machine, he’s slowly inched his way into this. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun to see Bucky."

While Bucky’s humor will get to shine more in the upcoming series, it is still unclear if his character will be the one to take on Captain America’s mantle. Captain America left his iconic shield with Falcon and the end of Avengers: Endgame; however, when asked if that meant Falcon would be the new Captain America, Mackie responded that the title is still up for grabs. "The show, the idea of the show [referring to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier] is basically... At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Cap decided he was going into retirement and he asked me if I would take up the shield, but at no point in time, did I agree to or say that I would be Captain America," Mackie said. "So the show walks the line of who is going to take up the shield and who's going to be Captain America if Steve isn't coming back."

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series premieres March 19 on Disney+.
