Fantastic Four Fans Rally Around Jessica Alba as Sue Storm | CBR

After fans heard the rumor that Jennifer Lawrence might portray Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman in Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming Fantastic Four film, fans rallied behind Jessica Alba's performance within 21st Century Fox's franchise as Sue Storm.

Nearly 24-hours after Lawrence's possible casting was reported, "Jessica Alba" trended on Twitter. Fans asked for the actor to receive another chance at portraying the role within the MCU, likening it to how Chris Evans' Human Torch forged the path for his role as Cap.

At the time of Evans' casting in Fox's Fantastic Four films, "when the superhero thing was just taking off," the actor had yet to land a blockbuster role. His portrayal of Johnny Storm/Human Torch gathered him a then-cult fanbase, which was a crucial step towards his Captain America casting in the MCU. Alba's fans on Twitter asked for a similar chance for her, posting messages like the one from user @myaOWNbusiness, who wrote, "Listen. If Chris Evans was able to rebrand for MCU, so can Jessica Alba."

Other Alba fans posted supporting messages of her performance, like user @Danromanova, who wrote, "Jessica Alba was perfect as Sue Storm."

Or messages like user @civiiswar, who wrote, "Jessica Alba was so good as Sue Storm in Fantastic 4," and received over 11,000 likes on Twitter.

Actor Jessica Alba portrayed Sue Storm in both 2005's Fantastic Four and its direct sequel 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Until Disney acquired Fox in 2019, all rights to the Fantastic Four characters were belonging to Fox. Disney's acquisition allowed Marvel Studios to be able to create new stories using these Marvel Comic characters for the first time.

At Disney's Investor Day 2020, Marvel Studios President and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige confirmed Marvel's first family will arrive in their own MCU feature film at a later date. The film will be helmed by Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts. The team first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1961's The Fantastic Four #1 and has spawned several animated television shows, video games and films.

Since Disney's announcement, several stars have mentioned their interest in portraying one of the four leads, including Tenet's John David Washington who said he'd be interested in portraying Mr. Fantastic in Watts' Fantastic Four. However, at the time of this writing, there are no official casting announcements or release dates for Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four film.
