Frasier Revival Confirmed at Paramount+ | CBR

Kelsey Grammer has confirmed he will reprise his role as Dr. Frasier Crane in a reboot of the Frasier series for Paramount+.

"Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I'd like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world," Grammer said during the Paramount+ Investor Day event, according to THR. "I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane."

Rumors that a Frasier revival was in the works first surfaced in the summer of 2018, when Grammer confirmed he was in early talks with CBS Studios about the show. Paramount+ entered the picture in early February, as talks continued.

"Frasier is one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history and truly defines premium storytelling," CBS Studios president David Stapf added. "There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris and Kelsey. We can't wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount+."

Grammer first appeared as Frasier Crane on Cheers in 1984, before moving on to lead the Seattle-based Cheers spinoff, which ran for 11 seasons on NBC. During its tenure, Frasier won 37 Emmy awards, including five consecutive best comedy series trophies beginning in 1994 and several acting wins for Grammer and co-star David Hyde Pierce.

"My job is to find Paramount+ The Handmaid's Tale, the Mad Men, The Walking Dead -- the show that helps define them," Paramount Television President Nicole Clemons said shortly after the series lineup announcement. "It's really ambitious and it's an offering that is going to be incredibly appealing and compelling to people who are in the market for another streamer."

Frasier ran from 1993 to 2004 and starred Kelsey Grammar, Jane Leeves, David Hyde Pierce, Peri Gilpin, John Mahoney, Dan Butler and Bebe Neuwirth. It was also advanced during the Investor Day event that Paramount+ is adapting Fatal Attraction, Flashdance, The Italian Job, Love Story and The Parallax View as new series for the refresh platform.

Paramount+, the soon-to-be-rebranded CBS All Access, will be available for U.S. and Latin American markets on March 4. The Nordics will follow on March 25, with Australia in mid-2021. CBS All Access in Canada will be rebranded to Paramount+ on March 4, and an expanded offering will be available later in the year.
