MCU: 10 Things That Don't Make Sense About The Spider-Man Movies

After years of struggling with Spider-Man's character rights, Disney finally got their hands on him. Peter Parker finally was able to enter the MCU. Not only that, but he has been getting his own movies; Spider-Man: Homecoming, released in 2017, and Spider-Man: Far From Home, released in 2019, and were both directed by Jon Watts.

Jon Watts will be directing the third movie for Spider-Man in the MCU, as well. As such, fans are hoping that he might take the opportunity to clarify some details about the Web-slinger. There are a few things that just didn’t make sense about the first two Spider-Man movies in the franchise.

10 His Spidey-Sense Doesn't Always Work

One of Spider-Man’s most helpful skills is his ability to feel when something bad is about to happen. His “Spidey-Sense” can tell him that something is about to go wrong right before it does, improving his reaction time dramatically.

However, this sense — or, the “Peter tingle,” as it was jokingly called — doesn’t always seem to work for Peter in the MCU. While he is occasionally warned that something is going to go wrong, he doesn’t always get this sense working. It seems impossible to predict when this power will actually work.

9 Peter Parker Has Tony Stark As A Mentor

When Peter Parker first kicked off as Spider-Man in Marvel Comics, he didn’t really have anyone but himself. He relied on advice from his Uncle Ben and Aunt May but, after his Uncle Ben died, he found himself using his lessons to teach himself more than anything else. He’s an independent hero more than anything else, self-taught and stronger for it.

However, in the MCU, Peter Parker is inexplicably given Tony Stark as a mentor. Rather than creating all his own tech, Tony gives Peter things; rather than building himself up on his own, Tony takes over. This addition to their plots was entirely unnecessary.

8 Tony Treats Peter Like A Child

If Tony Stark is going to be a superhero mentor to Peter Parker, he would need to act more like a teacher and less like a parent. He condescends to Peter and becomes more an object of worship than somebody Peter feels capable of emulating.

For example, when Tony feels that Peter has made an incorrect choice, he treats him as if he has misbehaved and takes his suit away from him. Peter needs to learn how to be a hero on his own, and Tony babying him and taking control of his life is not going to help him. Besides, he has a parent; Aunt May is there for him.

7 Uncle Ben Has Barely Any Presence At All

Perhaps if Peter felt that he had advice from his past to lean on, he may feel more secure in striking out on his own. However, Uncle Ben has hardly had any presence in the MCU at all, let alone in Peter’s life.

Peter is supposed to use Uncle Ben’s and Aunt May’s lessons to frame his superheroic acts, but without Uncle Ben’s half of things, Peter is slightly adrift. Removing this influence on Peter is detrimental to both his story and to his character, as he struggles to grow without any direction or guidance from Uncle Ben.

6 Vulture Leaves Spider-Man To Die Despite Knowing He’s A Child

A shocking moment in the MCU came in Spider-Man: Homecoming when Adrian Toomes learns that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, and Peter learns that Adrian is both the Vulture and the father of his friend Liz. Audiences were also surprised by this, but even more surprising is what Adrian chooses to do with that information.

Though he does warn Peter not to get involved, when Spider-Man inevitably steps in to stop Adrian from hijacking a weapons transport, Adrian nearly kills Peter. He even leaves Peter for dead in the rubble of the building they fought in. Adrian knows that Peter is in high school, and yet he chooses to leave him to die.

5 No Superheroes Came To Help Spider-Man

The state that Spider-Man: Far From Home finds the world in is a bit messy, but people are starting to figure things out again. Once those who had been dusted were returned by the Blip, people started trying to figure out ways to move on from that huge extinction event.

However, now that so many heroes exist around the world, it seems shocking that Far From Home would have Spider-Man facing down bad guys alone. The fact that no other Avengers, or any heroes at all, come to help Peter out is madness. Even if the Skrulls are somehow manipulating things, someone like Falcon would almost certainly want to help.

4 Parents Weren’t All That Concerned About Their Kids

After the events of the Snap and the Blip, the kids in Spider-Man: Far From Home are clearly trying to comprehend the chaos that has just befallen them. The kids that survived the Snap are now intermixed with their returned peers, and the kids who came back from getting dusted are struggling to understand what happened while they were gone.

Despite this shock, the parents in the film are fine with letting their kids go on a field trip to another continent. More than that, the kids’ lives are at risk, and they just continue their vacation. This doesn’t really make sense for a post-Snap and post-Blip world.

3 Tony Created EDITH After Everything that Happened With Ultron

The fact that Tony Stark created Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron was already a major misstep within the MCU. That decision didn’t make sense and the fact that Tony would continue to create any sort of AI after this similarly makes no sense. However, the next AI introduced, EDITH, seems immensely powerful.

Tony Stark left EDITH behind, and yet there are few regulations placed on the device. Additionally, Peter is incredibly reckless with EDITH, making it all the more obvious that this was not only a good decision, but one Tony likely would have avoided making.

2 Every Single One Of Peter’s Friends Was Conveniently Dusted

In order to keep the core cast of the Spider-Man movies in the MCU together, all of Peter’s friends had to get dusted with him. That means that his entire friend group conveniently died in the Snap, and all got brought back in the Blip.

Otherwise, the characters wouldn’t be able to stick around. Of course, it doesn’t make actual sense that his entire friend group would proportionally have gotten Snapped.

1 Mysterio Somehow Knew That Peter Parker Was Spider-Man

One of the most confusing questions people had after watching the Spider-Man movies in the MCU was: how did Mysterio know that Peter Parker was Spider-Man?

Peter gets his true identity revealed to the world, but, before this, Mysterio needed to find out who Peter was on his own. However, the movie never explains how Mysterio knew who Peter was. There’s no real way he should be able to know this.
