RWBY: Fairy Tales of Remnant Spinoff Show Set for 2021 | CBR

A new RWBY spinoff focusing on the anime-inspired series' in-universe fairy tales is slated to hit screens sometime this year.

RWBY: Fairy Tales of Remnant (or simply RWBY Fairy Tales) is featured in a sizzle reel recently posted by Rooster Teeth, in which the Austin-based production house teases its slate of content for 2021. The graphic in question features a creature of Grimm clawing its way through the "Fairy Tales of Remnant" logo, with an annotation in the bottom right-hand corner explaining that the project is a "new show."

For the uninitiated, RWBY: Fairy Tales of Remnant is the title of an official RWBY tie-in book written by E.C. Myers -- author of the RWBY novels After the Fall and Before the Dawn --  and illustrated by Violet Tobacco. Released on Sept. 15, 2020, Fairy Tales of Remnant is a collection of 12 fairy tales from within the RWBY universe, some of which have already been referenced in the main show and some of which are brand-new.

A 2D-animated, mixed media spinoff show of a similar premise was originally announced in early 2020, with Rooster Teeth Animation explaining that it was "in the early stages of development on a handful of new animated shorts featuring original RWBY fairy tales." This project has evidently now materialized as the Fairy Tales of Remnant series.

Two other RWBY tie-in shows were announced around the same time -- the first being the behind-the-scenes podcast Talk CRWBY to Me and the second being the Dungeons & Dragons show RWBY: The Grimm Campaign -- both of which have already premiered. RWBY is certainly no stranger to supplementary/spinoff shows, with previous examples including the RWBY: World of Remnant miniseries and the comedy-oriented RWBY Chibi.

RWBY is currently in the midst of its eighth volume (i.e. season), which premiered this past November and returned for its second half on Feb. 6. RWBY Volume 8 will run for a total of 14 episodes. The 10th episode was recently delayed by one week as a result of the severe weather conditions and power outages experienced in Texas -- Austin included -- over the past week. Said showrunner Kerry Shawcross, "While the episode is basically done, we would rather the team focus on themselves and their safety." Episode 10 will premiere on Feb. 27, with RWBY Volume 8 now set to conclude on March 27. A ninth volume is already in the works.
