Fans around the world crashed servers every week to catch the newest episode of WandaVision, which could be compared to a comic mini-series that is released to tease an upcoming event. This makes it an incredibly important part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond the huge changes made in the lives of Scarlet Witch and Vision.
WandaVision explored comic storylines like the West Coast Avengers' "Vision Quest" that teased a potentially dark future for some of the characters. After the revelations of the WandaVision finale, there are quite a few comic storylines fans can check out that could very easily be used for future projects and stories in the MCU.
Spoilers ahead for WandaVision's finale.
10 Vision Took Over The World's Security Systems During "Ultimate Vision"
The "Vision Quest" storyline explored on WandaVision saw Vision dismantled and rebuilt by the government, though in the comics the motivation behind that act was much different than in the MCU. The Avengers' "Ultimate Vision" storyline took place after Vision had been repaired by an alien A.I. that influenced him through a control crystal implanted during his creation by Ultron.
Vision expanded his consciousness and took over the world's various security systems in his misguided attempt to save the planet that ultimately led to his dismantling. The new Vision introduced in WandaVision could follow a similar logic, especially if any of Ultron is left in the rebuilt synthezoid.
9 Wanda Was Possessed By Chthon In "The Witch On Wundagore Mountain"
Wanda's magical abilities were further developed in WandaVision as her connection to the mystical Darkhold was teased, which also revealed her prophesied role as the Scarlet Witch for the first time in the MCU. The Darkhold was created by the powerful Elder God known as Chthon, who has exerted his control over Wanda quite a few times in the comics.
"The Witch on Wundagore Mountain" storyline saw Scarlet Witch turn on her fellow Avengers after falling under the control of Chthon. Given WandaVision's post-credits scene's possible reveal of Wundagore Mountain and Wanda's further exploration of the Darkhold, it's very likely Chthon could be extending his dark hold over Wanda in the MCU as well.
8 The Rebuilt Vision Found His Humanity Again In "Re/Vision"
While it isn't the darkest storyline that could be explored next in the MCU, "Re/Vision" from Avengers Spotlight #40 featured an integral step in Vision's recovery from his dismantling by the government and rebuilt, non-emotional form as seen in WandaVision.
Hoping to deal with the distress he found in his new form, Vision sought out a unique form of therapy from an expert in artificial intelligence. He helped stabilize his systems by integrating the digital brain patterns of his deceased son with Vision, which mirrored the same process that was done with Wonder Man's brain patterns on his original form.
7 Scarlet Witch Was Possessed By That Which Endures In "This Ancient Evil"
Wanda became a target due to her incredible abilities from various villains, which included a cult of humans that served as a parasitic organism known as That Which Endures. The cult was able to kidnap Wanda and she was possessed by That Which Endures, briefly turning her against her teammates in the Avengers.
While this storyline likely won't appear in the MCU directly given the one-note nature of the villains, it highlights a continuing issue with Wanda and contributed to her larger breakdown that built in the pages of West Coast Avengers that could also tease a confrontation between Scarlet Witch and the Avengers.
6 Immortus Influenced Scarlet Witch's Breakdown In "Darker Than Scarlet"
While the "Darker Than Scarlet" storyline from West Coast Avengers didn't end well, it still featured another dark turn for Wanda that followed the loss of her children and relationship with Vision that could influence the future of the MCU. Wanda and Vision's problems were revealed as manipulations of Immortus (the future version of Kang the Conqueror).
He planned to gain control of Wanda's abilities to further his own power to alter the timeline. The anti-climactic storyline suffered a creative team change-up that retconned a number of story elements, but the Immortus connection could play a role given Kang the Conqueror's MCU debut in Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania.
5 The Young Avengers Discover Their Connection To Wanda In The Children's Crusade
WandaVision introduced young Billy and Tommy to the MCU as the twin children of Wanda and Vision that she created along with the town of Westview. While the twins were seemingly lost, the post-credit scene teased their survival as Wanda heard them calling for her while she was reading the Darkhold.
In the comics, a team known as the Young Avengers forms that include members Wiccan and Speed, whose origins were explored during Avengers: The Children's Crusade. Wiccan and Speed were revealed as the reincarnated twin children of Wanda Maximoff. The Young Avengers have been rumored for years, and WandaVision's finale further teases this possible adaptation.
4 Monica Rambeau Worked Alongside Captain Marvel On The Ultimates
While WandaVision only included a few credit stingers over the series, the finale included two that offered huge teases for the future of the MCU, with Scarlet Witch's exploration of the Darkhold taking most of the focus. However, Monica Rambeau's future was also teased as she was contacted by Nick Fury through a Skrull agent, who teased she would be heading up into space.
This follows Spider-Man: Far From Home's reveal that Nick Fury is working with Skrulls in space as well as the confirmation that Monica Rambeau will be appearing in Captain Marvel 2. While the characters have a long history, they most recently worked together on The Ultimates as they protected Earth from cosmic threats, which could be Monica Rambeau's next step in the MCU.
3 Scarlet Witch Encountered Her Multiversal Twin Lore In "Dark Designs"
Wanda starred in her own comic mini-series in the '90s that further explored the loss of her twins and her connection to the mystic known as Master Pandemonium. However, the series also introduced the character of Lore, who was a multiversal version of Scarlet Witch who also existed as a nexus being. This could tie-in to the WandaVision Nexus antidepressant commercial.
Lore used her abilities to recruit servants like Master Pandemonium and travel across dimensions so she could kill her multiversal counterparts and steal their power, similar to Agatha Harkness's goals in WandaVision. With Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange set to explore the Multiverse of Madness in his upcoming sequel, it's possible Lore could make her debut in the MCU as well.
2 Doctor Strange & Scarlet Witch Battled Dracula During "The Montesi Formula"
With Scarlet Witch confirmed to appear in the upcoming Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, a comic adventure featuring the two powerful magic-users sticks out as a possible source for adaptation given the separate announcement that Mahershala Ali will be starring in a Blade reboot for the MCU.
Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch previously worked together against Dracula (with Monica Rambeau briefly) during "The Montesi Formula" storyline that temporarily eradicated vampires. The twist that could affect the MCU in the future is that all the exterminated vampires are destined to return after the Montesi spell is undone, which could give Blade his reason to appear in the MCU.
1 Scarlet Witch Suffered Her Ultimate Breakdown & Disassembled The Avengers
One of the biggest implications made by the events of the WandaVision finale is that while she seems to have overcome her grief over the loss of Vision and is dealing reasonably well with having to say goodbye to her children, she is still dealing with dark forces beyond her control that could have ominous repercussions for the MCU.
Wanda's biggest breakdown in the comics happened during the Avengers: Disassembled storyline after the memory of her lost children returned. Scarlet Witch caused the deaths of Ant-Man, Hawkeye, and Vision before she was stopped by Doctor Strange. These events would lead to her later transformation of reality in House of M that partially inspired WandaVision.
