Batman, King Kong Among Space Jam Sequel's Extended Cast | CBR

Space Jam: A New Legacy will feature LeBron James teaming up with the Looney Tunes for another animatedly antic basketball match. However, Bugs Bunny and friends won't be the only popular characters appearing in the film.

According to EWSpace Jam: A New Legacy will feature cameos from a wide range of characters in Warner Bros' film library. Among the characters set to make an appearance are Batman and King Kong, due to James being sucked into a virtual reality by Don Cheadle's rogue computer program Al G Rhythm. James also namedropped films like The Matrix and Wonder Woman.

"It was a tricky thing just in terms of what you may want, like, 'Oh my God, look, there's Mad Max, and there's Casablanca!'" director Malcolm D. Lee said of the environments that James and the Looney Tunes travel to. Lee also said that Warner Bros. characters will be spectators at the game between James' Tune Squad and the villainous Goon Squad.

This is not the first time Warner Bros. has dipped into its well of intellectual property for a film -- or even the first time a Looney Tunes themed film has done so. The 2003 film Looney Tunes: Back in Action featured appearances from Scooby-Doo and friend Shaggy, while Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One had a veritable cornucopia of characters in homage to its source material including the Iron Giant.

During a trip to the Warner Bros. studio, NBA Superstar LeBron James and his son accidentally get trapped within a world that contains all of Warner Bros.' stories and characters, under the control of a malfunctioning, all-powerful force named Al G. With the help of Bugs Bunny, LeBron must navigate through a never-before-imagined world filled with iconic movie scenes and characters as they re-assemble the Looney Tunes to rescue his lost son. Now to get back home, Lebron and the Tunes have to unravel Al G's mysterious plan and win an epic basketball game against digital gamified super-versions of the NBA and WNBA's biggest stars as the entire world watches.

Directed by Malcolm D. Lee, Space Jam: A New Legacy stars LeBron James, Don Cheadle and Sonequa Martin-Green. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max July 16.
