Sonic: Belle Has A Surprising Connection To Tangle the Lemur

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog #37 by Evan Stanley, Adam Bryce Thomas, Shawn Lee & Reggie Graham on sale now.

Even heroes can feel awkward and shy sometimes. Belle the Marionette, the newest member of Sonic's brave team of heroes, is still feeling out of place among her new friends. As the only walking and talking wooden marionette in the world, Belle feels horribly self-conscious, especially over how quirky some of her powers are. But when Belle meets Tangle the Lemur, she finally discovers someone who shares a very unique trait with her.

Sonic and Tails found Belle in an Eggman installation while the two were on a mission. Being mistaken for a Badnik, Belle was attacked by Sonic on sight. Luckily, Belle was able to convince Sonic and Tails that she wasn't evil and that she was simply looking for her dad. The two heroes agreed to bring Belle with them when they left the Eggman installation, thus beginning her adventures with Sonic and Tails.

Tangle the Lemur shares a similar story to Belle. Coming from Spiral Hill Village, Tangle met Sonic when he came to her village in order to defeat a large group of roving Badniks. Tangle was introduced to a number of other heroes after meeting Sonic and was eventually asked to come to the Resistance HQ in order to help save Angel Island. Tangle's adventures grew in number until her best friend, Jewel the Beetle, became the new leader of the Resistance, now named the Restoration. Since Jewel's promotion, however, Tangle has found herself more and more bored in her new home.

But as Belle enters the Restoration HQ for the first time, she's quickly sent to help in the machine shop. Unfortunately, Belle makes a bit of a mess of things, due in part to her inexperience, but also because of her tail. While carrying a large box, a forklift drives behind her and accidentally runs over her tail. Without meaning to, Belle kicks the box across the machine shop and into a rope that just happens to be holding a very large boat in the air. Before the boat can fall to the ground, Tangle jumps to the rescue and manages to secure it with her own tail.

Before Belle can be reprimanded too much by the chief of the machine shop, Tangle pulls her aside and gushes over her. As someone with a very unique and versatile tail herself, Tangle thinks Belle's own tail is incredibly cool. While Tangle's tail is super long and can be used in countless ways, Belle's tail is used to ready her kick attack. Belle has expressed her shyness and see's herself as an outcast among the other heroes. Tangle, however, is absolutely delighted to meet someone who has such a unique tail like herself and doesn't care in the least that Belle is a marionette.

Despite Tangle having the tendency to leap before she looks, it's sweet to see Belle and Tangle become fast friends. This isn't to say that the other heroes have given Belle a hard time, but none of the others made a specific comment on loving Belle's tail the way Tangle did. Rather than asking questions about Belle's past or inquiring about other unique traits she might have, Tangle expressed positivity at meeting Belle. Belle and Tangle also share similar histories in that both of them were inadvertently drawn into the Resistance/Restoration efforts after having run-ins with Sonic. Tangle's energetic and bombastic attitude makes a fun contrast to Belle's more reserved and measured demeanor. If their immediate friendship is any indication of things to come then it's safe to think that Belle and Tangle will have many more adventures together.
