Batwoman's Season 2 has teased for a while that Kate Kane would return; however, it was unknown who would be portraying the role since former Batwoman star Ruby Rose left the show after Season 1. The CW show's latest episode, "Survived Much Worse," answered this question for fans, debuting Kypton's Wallis Day as Kate Kane, as confirmed by Deadline.
Although Kate Kate, portrayed by Day, will serve a large role throughout the second half of Season 2, it's been confirmed that the character will not be returning to the role of Gotham's protector. Instead, the second half of the newest Batwoman season will explore where Kate has been and what has happened to her. However, Javicia Leslie's Batwoman will remain the show's hero, continuing her legacy as the first Black woman to don the cowl and cape.
Day's character is described as an "altered" version of Kate Kane. The former Batwoman "is alive but unrecognizable due to injuries she sustained in the crash." While being held hostage, she's also heavily "bandaged," suggesting she's been severely wounded.
Day previously starred as Nyssa-Vex in Syfy's hit superhero series Kypton -- which was set on Superman's home planet, but about 200 years before the Man of Steel was born. The Syfy series ran for two seasons before its cancellation. The actor has also played roles in Jekyll & Hyde, The Royals and Hollyoaks. This is the actor's first role within The CWverse.

A SURPRISE AT EVERY TURN – Batwoman’s (Javicia Leslie) abilities are tested like never before, while Alice’s (Rachel Skarsten) search for Kate continues. Sophie (Meagan Tandy) and Jacob (Dougray Scott) set their sights on Coryana, and Luke (Camrus Johnson) and Mary (Nicole Kang) contend with an unexpected guest. Holly Dale directed the episode written by Natalie Abrams (#208). Original airdate 3/21/2021.
