Pennyworth Finally Unites Alfred, Thomas Wayne, Martha Kane and Lucius Fox

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 7, of Pennyworth, "The Bloody Mary," which aired Sunday on EPIX.

The first season of Pennyworth introduced Alfred, Thomas Wayne and Martha Kane, and rapidly brought all three characters together to forge a bond between them. However, all of that changed as Season 2 began. When the next season premiered, all three characters were separated, and they appeared to mostly be at odds with one another. For that reason, the last six episodes of the series have seen these characters take part in their respective stories.

But thankfully, all of that changes with the EPIX series' latest episode, which finally brings Alfred, Thomas, Martha and the season's new addition, Lucius Fox together.

In "The Bloody Mary," Alfred finally has the money he needs to take himself, his mother and Dave Boy to America. Finally, the flight is set for the next day, and they will be joined by Thomas Wayne and Lucius Fox, who are also leaving to return to their home country. However, once everyone arrives at the airport, everything changes. With his ticket out of London now in his grasp, Alfred realizes that he actually can't leave. London is his home, and now that it's on the eve of collapse, he realizes that he needs to stay and fight for it.

While Thomas and Lucius Fox are both set to return to the CIA, they are also outraged that the United States government doesn't want to intervene in the war, considering that the Raven Union is about to unleash its horrifying chemical weapon, "Stormcloud." Lucius is determined to help, and Thomas eventually follows suit.

After changing their minds, Alfred and Thomas are reunited, and although there was no love lost between the two of them throughout the season, they form a bond in their shared interest to stay and fight to protect London. Thomas even humorously exclaims that this could be the start of a beautiful friendship and, while Alfred may laugh it off, fans know that is, in fact, the start of something important.

Alfred, Thomas and Lucius all head to the English League headquarters, where they tell Prime Minister Aziz and Martha Kane all about "Stormcloud." As the episode comes to a close, all four characters who form the foundation of who Bruce Wayne will ultimately become -- Alfred Pennyworth, Thomas Wayne, Martha Kane and Lucius Fox -- all stand together, ready to protect London from the Raven Union. This has been a long time coming, and it feels like this is what the series has been building towards ever since its premiere. Pennyworth has just kicked things up a notch, and Season 2 is better for it.

Developed by former Gotham collaborators Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, Pennyworth stars Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth, Ben Aldridge as Thomas Wayne, Jason Flemyng as Lord Harwood, Paloma Faith as Bet Sykes, Ryan Fletcher as Dave Boy, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett as Bazza, Jessica Ellerby as the Queen and Simon Manyonda as Lucius Fox.
