Batwoman's Ruby Rose Wants to Play Another Superhero - or Villain

Former Batwoman star Ruby Rose revealed that she would love to play another superhero, or a villain, if given the chance.

"Absolutely. Look, playing a superhero is a dream. It's so much fun. Of course I would," Rose said during an interview about her new film SAS: Red Notice with Comic Book Movie. "I'd play a superhero, I'd play a villain."

The actor went on to explain, "there's a lot of things I would love to do," saying, "There was something very special about being able to play Batwoman and Kate Kane, and introduce her to the world, and you know, help inspire a bunch of kids -- which is Javicia [Leslie] is doing right now." Rose continued, "It's such a beautiful thing to be able to watch."

She also talked about the types of roles that excite her most as an actor, noting, "Any roles that challenge you in a particular way or have a bigger greater meaning or great story behind them I love, and really react and respond to that material."

Rose portrayed superhero Kate Kane in Season 1 of The CW's Batwoman series, but exited the show ahead of Season 2 for reasons related to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and a back surgery she underwent following a failed stunt.

Javicia Leslie currently portrays new Batwoman Ryan Wilder, who was introduced in the show's Season 2 premiere. While it was initially believed that writers would kill off Rose's character, which seemed to be confirmed with the news she was in a plane crash, it was hinted in an early Season 2 episode that the Kane character is still alive.

In the same interview, Rose confirmed she would consider reprising the role of Kane if The CW asked her to make a cameo on the show, but noted that she thinks "building the new Batwoman is more important."

"I would absolutely do whatever they wanted," she added. "...I've watched a couple episodes, and I think how they're handling it is beautiful. And I think, it's like, [Leslie's] time to shine."

Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott and Nicole Kang. New episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
