Champions: Marvel's Young Heroes Earn a Major Win & Cement an Ultimate Enemy

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Champions #5 by Eve L. Ewing, Bob Quinn, Federico Blee & VC's Clayton Cowles, on sale now

Across the course of "Outlawed," the Champions have been pushed to the very edge. But despite all the chaos that has been caused in the wake of Kamala's Law, the Champions have earned a major victory that even other grown heroes haven't.

The Champions just earned a major victory over Roxxon -- and set themselves up for their next battle against the villainous company.

The fallout of the Champion's disastrous attempt to protect Coles Academic led to young heroes across the Marvel Universe being targeted, with many sent into hiding, the leaders of the Champions being forced on the run, and some even being captured by the government-sponsored C.R.A.D.L.E. task force. The Champions have finally been reunited though, with Viv Vision coming out of hiding and helping her teammates not only liberate the captured young heroes but also discover the connection between Roxxon and the events of "Outlawed." The group has been able to procure evidence of Roxxon's actions and release it publicly, revealing to the world the lengths that Roxxon has been going to with their for-profit reeducation centers.

Public opinion quickly turns against Senator Patrick -- the US government figure who spearheaded the C.R.A.D.L.E. program -- which is only escalated by both the arrival of Roxxon representatives and the Champions. Soon joined by a crowd of people, Patrick publicly denounces the program and ends the contract with Roxxon. While Kamala's Law is not outright repealed, the Champions are able to confidently tell the press that it will be re-evaluated. In front of the public, the Champions are able to profess themselves as heroes and earn a very important victory over Roxxon. However, it doesn't appear that the Champions are done facing down the corporation.

The end of the issue reveals that Miles Morales and Sam Alexander -- aka Spider-Man and Nova -- have been sent to infiltrate the company as new interns in their social media department. The company is very excited to have them at their side. It's highly unlikely that two founding members of the Champions have fully turned against their allies. Instead, it's far more likely that the pair are infiltrating the company as part of the team's next salvo against the corporation. By sneaking inside the company, the two young heroes could be crucial in discovering what other plans Roxxon has for the world and for dealing with young heroes like them.

This could further position the Champions as the heroes to really bring down Roxxon. The company has come up against figures like the Hulk and Thor in recent years, operating in opposition to the heroes. But by infiltrating the company and seeking ways to bring about the end of Roxxon from the inside, this could give the Champions the chance to figure out how to bring down the organization once and for all. But there's also an inherent risk with them infiltrating the company, especially if Roxxon is able to figure out their true identities.
