Fallout 76: New Developer Road Map Includes Pets & Enhanced Private Worlds

Bethesda recently announced a new roadmap for Fallout 76, featuring a plethora of new content for the black sheep of the Fallout franchise. These changes and updates are planned to be seasonal, with the earliest expected to come out this Spring.

For Spring, players can look forward to a big update meant to make C.A.M.P.’s and S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes much more flexible to fit with their playstyle. Starting at level 25, players will gain access to S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Loadouts, which offer the brand-new ability to reboot all of your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points for free whenever you're in your C.A.M.P. This will allow players to create and save custom S.P.E.C.I.A.L. point allocations and Perk Card assignments, then switch between them. This update will also allow players to build multiple C.A.M.P.s, each with its own location, build budget, custom name and even a unique map icon. While you will only be able to have one active C.A.M.P. at a time, you can easily switch among them using a new C.A.M.P. Builds widget or your C.A.M.P. icons on the map.

Some minor additions and improvements in this update include a new aim assist setting, expanding the World Activity Menu and tuning up melee combat to feel more fluid and reliable. It will also add crafting sliders to all Workbench menus, which will let players assemble, forge, cook or manufacture an entire stack of an item all at once. All you will need to do is move the slider to the number that you want to craft before you hit confirm. This update is planned to release alongside the first of many expansions to Daily Ops events. There is still no exact date to expect this new content, but the public test server featuring the update was held in early February, so hopefully, the Spring update will be coming soon.

Last year Bethesda reintroduced a fan favorite faction to the Appalachia region known as the Brotherhood of Steel as the focus of their Steel Dawn update. When first introduced, the faction hinted that they would have to deal with conflict within their own ranks, as members have different ideas on what direction their chapter should take to secure the wasteland. The Steel Reign update is meant to conclude this story while introducing all-new quests, locations, NPCs and powerful new rewards. Whether you’ll pick a side or somehow find a way to reconcile these former allies will be your decision. Steel Reign is also going to introduce the crafting of legendary weapons and armor using different legendary modules. No longer will you have to rely on luck when looting and killing enemies, now you can just make your own.

The developers have also hinted at an “evolution” for private worlds. Private servers have often been a long-sought-after feature by many fans, but its execution went quite poorly with the game’s initial launch. Hopefully, these further updates will improve private worlds where it’s just you and some close friends. This is planned to release alongside a second expansion to Daily Ops.

In Winter of this year, the roadmap shows plans for some true game-changers for players to enjoy. There will be new four-star legendary weapons and armor to wield, along with animal pets that will keep you company when resting in your C.A.M.P. locations. It’s unknown if you can take them with you on your adventures as animal companions. A new seasonal event called The Ritual will have players making their way to Point Pleasant to deal with the sinister plans of Appalachia’s Cultists. Whatever they hope to summon, it’ll likely mean bad news for everyone. Finally, the roadmap hints that Appalachia is getting some new visitors, but not from Earth. Players might just have to fight some alien invaders and have the chance to get some truly out of this world loot in the form of a new public challenge.
