Garner portrayed Bristow, a double agent for the Central Intelligence Agency, for all five seasons of Alias. By the time the show wrapped in 2006, the actor had earned a Golden Globe and four Emmy nominations for the role. Meanwhile, Cooper portrayed journalist Will Tippin in the first two seasons of the series and later reprised the role as a special guest star.

Garner first teased an Alias reboot might be in the works in 2018, noting, "I've heard that there's an Alias reboot happening, but no one's talked to me about it. I mean it would be totally different. But if they didn't have me on as a guest, I would be very, very angry." The actor added, "But I can't imagine it being that serious yet because I haven't heard anything about it at all."

In December 2020, Garner made an Alias reference on her Instagram, posting a clip in honor of reaching 10 million followers. In the video, Garner recreated a steamy scene in which Bristow emerged from a pool in slow motion. This time around, Garner swapped out the bikini for a wet suit and also added a pair of protective goggles.

"I am awfully grateful for everyone in this community," the actor captioned the post. "To celebrate all 10 million of you, here is THE video I promised my manager (hi, @nksolaka) and my publicist (hi, @mereowass) I would never post."

In addition to starring in Netflix's Yes Day, Garner will appear next in The Adam Project, which will also debut on Netflix and co-stars Ryan Reynolds and Mark Ruffalo. She is also working with frequent collaborator J.J. Abrams on a new Apple limited series.

Created by J.J. Abrams, Alias starred Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow, Ron Rifkin as Arvin Sloane, Michael Vartan as Michael Vaughn, Bradley Cooper as Will Tippin, Carl Lumbly as Marcus Dixon, Kevin Weisman as Marshall Flinkman and Victor Garber as Jack Bristow. All five seasons of Alias are streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
