Even when going on missions together, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's latest teaser shows that Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes just can't stop being frenemies.
In addition to new show footage, the "Co-workers" featurette highlights actors Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan deliberately getting on each other's nerves during interviews, just like their Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. "It's an example of opposites attract," Mackie explained, followed by a shot of Sam and Bucky comparing their vibranium arm and wings as superior combat tools. Stan also semi-jokingly addressed his relationship with Mackie, noting that "there are definitely days where I feel like he's gonna kill me" and squaring off on whether they actually have a "very good dynamic."
However, Stan and Mackie also agreed that their contrasting personalities not only make Sam and Bucky's interactions work, but also play well into The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's sense of humor and fight scenes. Mackie described the feel of their show as "exhilarating," while Stan called it as "a throwback to all those buddy-comedy action movies. You just don't know if they're going to kill each other or not."
An "Odd Couple" dynamic between the MCU's Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes has been teased since Captain America: Civil War, which saw them reluctantly working together as allies of Captain America and fighting Spider-Man. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will pick up in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame and see Sam Wilson not only deal with the responsibility of wielding Captain America's shield, but also team up with Bucky again for an espionage mission involving the masked group known as Flag Smashers and returning Civil War antagonist Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl).
Action scenes shown in the featurette also tease their antagonistic banter, such as Bucky reprimanding Sam for not having a plan before he jumps out of a plane and Sam mocking Bucky for letting a young Flag Smasher member get the better of him during their fight aboard a moving truck.
Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series premieres March 19 on Disney+.
