Looney Tunes World of Mayhem Recruits Big Chungus | CBR

Scopely's mobile game Looney Tunes World of Mayhem is getting a sizable new addition in an upcoming special event with Big Chungus.

The official Twitter account for the game posted a teaser video that's generating buzz among players. Big Chungus, a fan-favorite meme from the annals of Reddit, will be available as a playable character at the start of April. He gets his own special event called Chungabunga and will join the likes of Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn, Daffy Duck and, of course, Bugs Bunny as playable characters in the free-to-play battling game. The quick clip in the announcement shows the plus-sized version of Bugs peeking out from behind a cartoon Earth with the text "The World May Not Be Ready For This" accompanying it.

Big Chungus is based on a version of Bugs Bunny that briefly appeared in the 1941 short "Wabbit Twouble" with Elmer Fudd and has gone onto internet infamy. Fittingly enough, he gained most of his notoriety via a video game meme created back in 2018. A fake PlayStation4 game cover featuring the husky rabbit along with his now-iconic name -- based on a nonsense word -- was first posted on a comedy subreddit. It eventually made its way to other social media sites and went viral, with Big Chungus gaining fans all along the way.

Looney Tunes has been in the news lately, with the Space Jam movie reboot release just around the corner. It's unusual to see such a long-standing franchise make use of an internet meme, though it does already boast multiple different versions of Bugs himself. Fans have been asking for Big Chungus' inclusion for a few years, even mocking up screenshots, and it seems to have finally paid off.
