WARNING: The following contains spoilers for WandaVision Episode 8, "Previously On," streaming now on Disney+.
In WandaVision, it's clear Agatha Harkness has set herself as the series' Big Bad. She's been pulling all the strings, lurking in the background as a witch manipulating Wanda's reality bubble in Westview. And as much as Wanda has been tinkering with her sitcom world, she just couldn't pick up on the sinister machinations of Agatha.
One of these acts was, of course, killing Sparky, but in the latest episode, Agatha commits another sin that is much worse than murdering an innocent animal.
Billy and Tommy loved Sparky dearly, so they were left heartbroken when Agatha found him in her bushes, dead after eating some poisonous leaves. However, that story turns out to be a lie, because when Agatha reveals how she's been fiddling with Wanda's world, exacerbating her grief and trauma, she admits she killed Sparky
This left plenty of fans upset, but it was done to paint Agatha as a true sadist, and now, her latest verbal barb takes things even further when she takes Wanda on a supernatural trip down memory lane. As they discuss Wanda's past and her powers, Agatha mentions Pietro and how bringing back Wanda's brother was part of the plan. The new Pietro -- "Fietro," as she calls him -- was meant to be a spy to gather information so Agatha could discover the source of Wanda's abilities.
As for why Agatha couldn't bring the real Quicksilver back, well, she could only control this imposter through "crystalline possession," and when she offers the truth about not being able to resurrect Pietro, it's as crude as can be. "Necromancy was a non-starter since your real brother's body is on another continent -- not to mention, full of holes," Agatha explains.
This line is brutal not only because it's a low blow, but also because it's twisting a knife in the hero, recounting how Ultron shot her brother when he tried to save Hawkeye and a young boy. Clearly, Agatha went too far with this one, and given Wanda's already fragile state, it's no surprise to see the agony in her eyes again.
When it comes to her parents' deaths and all the pain she's known, Wanda has been able to react accordingly, but now, for the first time, she's unable to lash out, having to watch from the sideline because Agatha has her trapped. Agatha cemented herself as a formidable opponent during her evil montage last episode, but now, she's entered cruel territory.
Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air Fridays on Disney+.
