In the anime film Lupin III: Dead or Alive, the infamous titular thief is looking for a treasure hidden on Drifting Island, a territory located in the fictional country of Zufu. Both the king and prince of Zufu have fallen prey to a military coup d’état, and the country is now being run by General Headhunter.

Hakim built his criminal record on stealing pets, which is exactly how he makes his entrance into Cowboy Bebop. While searching for a buyer to take the valuable animal off his hands, another thief steals Hakim's briefcase with the data dog inside.
