10 Superhero Movies With The Most Accurate Costumes | CBR

Superhero movies have been dominating movie theaters and home video for the past twenty years. There were some big superhero movies from the 1970s to the 1990s, but they started getting churned out consistently in the early 2000s. Obviously, there have been some duds but for the most part, they have been well thought out and entertaining.

When movies are being adapted from comic books, it's important to make the actors portraying these characters resemble their comic book counterparts. Some films tried to loosely adapt comic stories so they decided against accurate costumes. However, a lot of the films stayed true to the books and really nailed the wardrobe.

10 Spider-Man (2002) - Green Goblin Disappoints But Spidey Looks Great

Spider-Man came out in 2002 and started a new powerful wave of comic book movies. It was a smash hit and did a wonderful job of telling Peter's origin story. The Green Goblin was rightfully the main villain but his suit fell a little short of expectations.

The suit itself, the glider, and the pumpkin bombs looked great but the mask was completely different from the comics and looked too much like a big green helmet. However, Spidey's first live-action movie costume was perfect. While his webs actually shooting out of his wrists was a little weird, his costume looked amazing. The big white eyes and web-covered red suit stood out and caught everyone's attention.

9 X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) - The Last Scene Provides Comic-Accurate Outfits

While X-Men: Apocalypse wasn't the most popular X-Men movie, it still had moments of greatness. Fox's X-Men franchise mostly stayed away from comic-accurate costumes by giving the original team black leather leotards. However, when the new trilogy began in X-Men: First Class, the team dressed in their original comic yellow costumes for the final battle scene.

Finally, at the end of Apocalypse, the team resembled the early '90s X-Men, the most popular version of the team. Mystique with her classic white top, Nightcrawler with his classic red vest, and Cyclops with his dark blue jumpsuit were just a few of the cool upgrades.

8 Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) - Every JL Member's Costume Stands Out

Zack Snyder's Justice League was a major improvement on the 2017 Joss Whedon version. Appreciating the film made their costumes stand out more and Snyder added a black suit Superman, which looked outstanding. Cyborg looked like an awesome Terminator, Flash's suit looked "flashy," Wonder Woman was comic accurate, and Aquaman used his classic colors but with an upgraded suit.

The black suit Superman and his silver S had The Death of Superman vibes and Batman's gear for the last fight may be the greatest Batsuit ever made. The Dark Knight's black and silver armor mixed with his Nite-Owl-like goggles was perfect for a fight against Steppenwolf and his Parademons.

7 Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) - Vulture & Spidey Have New But Awesome Suits

Spider-Man: Homecoming was a refreshing take on the wall-crawler and introduced a lot of great characters from the comics. Fan-favorite villain Shocker made his live-action debut, with two characters taking up the mantle as well. They didn't have a full red and yellow suit but one of them did have a yellow jacket with stitching that was a nice homage.

Vulture looked frightening with his feathery jacket, huge wings, and black helmet mask with green eyes. Spidey wore his Stark suit from Civil War and his homemade suit, both with the classic red and blue color scheme. The Stark suit may be the most comic-book accurate Spidey costume ever and even had his trademark web wings.

6 Captain America: Civil War (2016) - Every Hero Suits Up To Perfection

Captain America: Civil War had a lot of awesome Marvel characters, with many of them battling each other. The aforementioned Stark Spidey suit debuted and looked straight out of a Steve Ditko comic, which is always a good thing.

Iron Man and Captain America wore their upgraded armor from Age of Ultron, as did Black Widow and Hawkeye. Ant-Man's suit was transformed into a Giant Man's suit and looked realistic, while Black Panther's debut was unforgettable and showed off his great Wakandan tech. Every main character truly looked amazing, making their airport battle look like an epic two-page panel of a Marvel comic book.

5 Superman (1978) - Christopher Reeve's Costume Soars Above All

Christopher Reeve truly made fans believe that a man could fly, thanks to the look and feel of Superman. In 1978, superhero movies were non-existent until Superman flew into theaters everywhere and took the audience's breath away. It was a massive success thanks to its beautiful story, outstanding visual effects for its time, and perfect casting.

Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor is the standard for all superhero villains and Margot Kidder's Lois Lane was the perfect love interest for Superman. Reeve's Superman will forever be the greatest superhero movie casting of all time. His suit popped off the screen, thanks to its bright blue color, red and yellow S logo, and the long red cape with yellow S logo on the back.

4 Fantastic 4: Rise Of The Silver Surfer (2007) - The Story Falls Short But The Garb Is Great

Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer is not a great film but there's no denying Laurence Fishburne offered an excellent performance as Silver Surfer, and the charm of Michael Chiklis' Thing and Chris Evan's Human Torch were indisputable. Also, the team's costumes looked great and combined the looks of their classic comic book garb with newer versions of the team.

The blue and white spandex suit had their trademark 4 on the front and fit each character to a tee. Silver Surfer's voice and CGI were near-perfect and Dr. Doom's mask and costume looked a lot better than people want to admit, it's too bad the performance wasn't fantastic.

3 Batman Forever (1995) - Everyone Looks Amazing

Batman Forever is unfairly tied to Batman and Robin, mostly because they were both directed by Joel Schumacher. Batman Forever may not have the epic feel of The Dark Knight but it's a fun take on some of the most charismatic DC characters. Tommy Lee Jones is a little over the top as Two-Face but his makeup and costume were a fun take on the character.

Jim Carrey's Riddler was annoyingly charismatic but had several awesome masks and outfits. His "jogging" light-up jacket still makes fans laugh today. Val Kilmer and Chris O'Donnell's Batman and Robin were a little bland but their suits were great! The colors and armor were perfectly upgraded versions of their comic book suits.

2 Avengers: Endgame (2019) - A Lot Of Costumes We Love 3000

Avengers: Endgame was epic and the final battle scene against Thanos and his army included many of the MCU's favorite good guys, and they all looked great during it. Some of the biggest standouts included Rhodey's updated Iron Patriot armor, Stark's nano-tech armor, Spidey's Iron Spider suit, and Captain Marvel's binary persona.

This version of Thanos was from a different timeline than the previous film, which meant he wore his full battle armor. Seeing as this Thanos didn't have the Infinity Gauntlet, he had his huge double-edged sword and warrior helmet. The Mad Titan looked like he was straight off a drawing from The Infinity Gauntlet graphic novel.

1 Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice (2016) - The Dark Knight Returns Comes To Life

Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice disappointed some viewers due to its poor CGI for Doomsday and wrong casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex. However, the look and feel of the heroes were perfect and gave off a lot of The Dark Knight Returns vibes, one of the most important comic book stories ever told.

Superman kept his classic red and blue suit from Man of Steel, while Wonder Woman had an awesomely accurate suit from the comics. Batman, who had his comic-accurate battle armor on, looked like he was straight off the pages of Frank Miller's amazing graphic novel.
