10 Times Superman Was The Most Dangerous Character In The DC Universe

Superman is the DC Universe's top superhero. Between his plethora of powers and heroic bearing, he's an inspiration to every hero in the universe. He's saved the day multiple times, battling against some of the most dangerous villains the universe has ever seen and setting the kind of heroic example that everyone else only wishes they could.

However, with all of that power, Superman is also one of the most dangerous beings in the DC Universe. An angry Man of Steel is something that no one wants to deal with and there have been times when he proved just how dangerous he could be, whether it be the main version of Superman or one from the Multiverse.

10 Superboy-Prime Has Almost Destroyed The Entire Universe & Killed Many Heroes

There are many versions of Superman throughout the Multiverse and one of the most dangerous is Superboy-Prime. Powerful enough to move planets, Superboy-Prime would make a massive impact when he went bad, killing members of the Teen Titans and the Superman of Earth-2.

This insane version of Kal-El would keep showing up, always posing a massive danger to everyone he faced. There were few versions of Superman from across the Multiverse as dangerous as he was and he proved it every chance he got.

9 When He Was Mind-Controlled By Maxwell Lord

In the run-up to Infinite Crisis, Maxwell Lord showed his true spots. Using the Brother Eye satellite and the power of Checkmate to attack the superheroes of the world, he needed to get Batman off his back. So, using his mind-control powers, he took over Superman's mind and sicced him on Batman.

Superman kept attacking Batman, almost killing him, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop him. Finally, Wonder Woman and the mind-controlled Superman clashed in battle, with Wonder Woman completely outclassed by the Man of Steel. Superman, with nothing holding him back, is more than a match for just about anyone.

8 When He Was Mind-Controlled By The Joker

In Batman: Endgame, by writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, Joker made one of his most destructive attacks against Batman and he started it off in grand fashion, using one of his Joker toxins to take over the Justice League and attack Batman. Batman was able to handle all of them but then Superman got into the fight.

While he would eventually be able to incapacitate the Man of Steel thanks to some Kryptonite-based trickery, Superman ripped through everything that Batman threw at him, showing just how dangerous he could be.

7 In DC One Million, He's Basically A God

DC One Million, by writer Grant Morrison and artist Val Semieks, saw the Justice League of the 853rd century come back to the present to gather the current League and bring them to the future for a celebration of Superman, one that would see Superman leave his Solar Fortress of Solitude. Shenanigans ensued but Kal-El of the future did show up and he was more powerful than ever.

Having spent millennia in the heart of the Sun, Superman's powers were basically godlike and allowed him to defeat Solaris the Tyrant Sun in a moment, something no one else could do. This version of Superman is basically a god and could defeat anyone, making him the most dangerous being in the 853rd century.

6 The Communist Superman Of Superman: Red Son Almost Conquered The World

Superman: Red Son, by writer Mark Millar and artists Dave Stewart and Killian Plunket, presented readers with a very different Superman, one raised in communist Russia. After Stalin died, Superman took over the USSR and, using his powers and brains, spread communism to nearly every corner of the globe. No one could stop him, either — every plan made against him failed.

He would have taken over the world if it wasn't for Brainiac going rogue and Lex Luthor figuring out a way to psychologically defeat the communist Man of Steel. He could have easily taken over the world but instead decided to fade away and let things run their course.

5 In Final Crisis, Superman Built A Device That Could Do Anything

Final Crisis, by writer Grant Morrison and artists J.G. Jones, Carlos Pacheco, and Doug Mahnke, was one of the darkest days in DC history, with Darkseid defeating the heroes and nearly collapsing the DC Multiverse into a black hole of his own loathing. The heroes would eventually figure out a way to strike back, with Superman learning how to build a device called the Miracle Machine from Brainiac 5.

This device allowed Superman to do anything and he used it to reconstruct reality after it was savaged by Darkseid's depredations. With this device, Superman could have done whatever he wanted, making him the most dangerous man in the universe.

4 In Kingdom Come, Superman Almost Made A Bad Situation Worse

Kingdom Come, by writer Mark Waid and artist Alex Ross, is one of the greatest DC stories of the '90s. The story was all about the return of heroism to the DC Universe, with Superman leading the way. However, things got very complicated because of the machination of both Lex Luthor and Batman, and many superhumans were atomized in a nuclear attack.

Superman lost it at this point, going to take revenge against the government representatives that ordered the attack. At that moment, Superman proved just how dangerous an angry Man of Steel could be and if he wouldn't have been stopped by the intervention of pastor Norman McKay, who was helping the Spectre decide who to punish for the situation, many would have died.

3 All-Star Superman Saw The Most Powerful Being On Earth Become More Powerful

All-Star Superman, by writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely, is one of the greatest Superman stories ever told and it opens with Superman becoming more powerful than he'd ever been before. He was able to easily hold up quintillions of tons with one hand and even destroyed the mechanism pressing that much weight down on him.

Throughout the story, Superman would put these powers to good use, battling his foes and trying to leave the world a better place before the overcharging of his cells killed him. While he didn't do any evil with his powers, there was no doubt that he was the most powerful and dangerous being on Earth.

2 Injustice Superman Went Completely Evil & Killed His Friends

There have been plenty of evil Supermen over the years but few were as bad as the one in the Injustice universe. Tricked into killing Lois Lane by the Joker, Superman would go rogue and take over the world, using his peerless abilities to take on anyone who stood against him.

Superman proved why he was the most dangerous person on Earth in the Injustice universe, dispatching everyone who tried to stop him. It took the efforts of everyone left alive to stop him and even then, it was a close thing. Superman gone bad is a frightening thing and few of the Multiverse's Supermen have borne that out as well as the one from the Injustice universe.

1 That Time He Destroyed The Elite

Action Comics #775, by writer Joe Kelly and artists Doug Mahnke and Lee Bermejo, introduced the Elite, a team of Authority rip-offs who didn't follow Superman's heroic code. This new breed of heroes had no qualms with brutalizing and killing their opponents and Superman decided to teach them and their leader Manchester Black a lesson.

He used his powers in inventive and shocking ways, making it seem like he killed each one of them. Black was aghast at this, until Superman told him what he had done, proving that he didn't have to stoop to their level to be dangerous and that when he put his mind to it, few could match him.
