Kawaki are Boruto are two key characters in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations who play a decisive role in determining the future of shinobi. In the prologue of the story, they are seen fighting each other, but a deeper dive into the story tells the fans that there is more depth to their relationship.
Both Kawaki and Boruto are well-written characters in their own right but are also quite different from each other. Some qualities of Kawaki make him more of an interesting character than Boruto, with the opposite being equally true.
10 KAWAKI SHOULD BE THE MAIN CHARACTER: He Offers A Non-Ninja Perspective In The Boruto Series
Kawaki was raised to become the vessel of Isshiki Otsutsuki and for this reason, he was trained quite rigorously by Jigen. His experience of life as a ninja, however, didn't come until he met Naruto Uzumaki.
Kawaki wasn't raised to be a shinobi and doesn't know their ways, which is what separates him from the likes of Boruto Uzumaki and makes him more intriguing in a sense.
9 BORUTO'S THE RIGHT CHOICE: He Is The Son Of Naruto Uzumaki, The Protagonist Of The Original Series
Boruto Uzumaki is the protagonist of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and he's the leader of the next generation, being the son of Naruto Uzumaki. Although he claims to have been inspired by Sasuke more, that doesn't change the fact that he has some of Naruto's qualities as well.
Boruto's ideals strongly resemble ones that Naruto carries, and for that reason, he is the perfect main character for the Boruto series.
8 KAWAKI SHOULD BE THE MAIN CHARACTER: He Has A Unique Personality That Protagonist Are Rarely Shown With
Kawaki is shown to be calm and collected most of the time while Boruto appears to let his emotions get the better of him more often. That's not to say that Kawaki doesn't show emotions, however.
During his time with Naruto, Kawaki slowly learns to open up and warms up to those important to him, which offers something different when it comes to the protagonists in Naruto and Boruto. Kawaki might be lacking in certain ways, but his personality is certainly worthy of being a fun main character.
7 BORUTO'S THE RIGHT CHOICE: He Has Inherited The Will Of Fire From Naruto & Sasuke
The core of what makes a Konoha shinobi has always been the Will of Fire that they carry. This has been passed down from generation to generation and in the case of the current one, Boruto Uzumaki seems to have inherited it the strongest.
Being the student of both Naruto and Sasuke, Boruto has a strong sense of duty to protect those in the village, especially the next generation of shinobi.
6 KAWAKI SHOULD BE THE MAIN CHARACTER: He Is A Conflicted Character With More Depth To Him
Kawaki's character is quite conflicted, even after becoming a part of the Uzumaki household. While a part of him is filled with love, care, and appreciation for Naruto Uzumaki, the other part feels he's a vessel who was made to be of use to Isshiki Otsutsuki.
Although Isshiki is dead, fans know that Kawaki eventually falls prey to the Karma again and decides to turn on Konoha, and this makes his character a lot more intriguing.
5 BORUTO'S THE RIGHT CHOICE: He Understands What It Means To Be A Shinobi
Boruto Uzumaki grew up being quite a brat and that's something that he shares with Naruto Uzumaki. Most of his pranks were just attempts to get the attention of his father and with time, Boruto grew quite a lot.
By the age of 16, Boruto is shown to understand what it truly means to be a shinobi and he stands in Kawaki's way as the last ninja to protect the shinobi world from that impending destruction.
4 KAWAKI SHOULD BE THE MAIN CHARACTER: He Is Less Troublesome Than Boruto Uzumaki
Although both Kawaki and Boruto are great characters, Boruto tends to be more exasperating at times, which is understandably down to the fact that his father neglected him during his childhood.
Kawaki, on the other hand, is quiet and rarely leaves his own shell. He doesn't rack up trouble as often, yet has all the qualities to be a good main character.
3 BORUTO'S THE RIGHT CHOICE: He Is The True Protector Of Konohagakure As Seen In The Prologue
Boruto Uzumaki might not have appeared to be dependent during the early days of the story, however, his growth as the story moves forward is undeniable. By the time of his fight against Kawaki, Boruto has matured to the point where he becomes the protector of Konohagakure and possibly the entire shinobi world.
Kawaki, on the other hand, stands against him and aims to put an end to all shinobi, meaning that he strays from his path at some point down the line.
2 KAWAKI SHOULD BE THE MAIN CHARACTER: He Is Not A Born Genius Like Boruto
Boruto Uzumaki is known to be a born genius and that's evident from his mastery over various nature transformations in the ninja academy. Many attribute it to him being Naruto's son but according to Momoshiki Otsutsuki, he's also strongly inherited the power of the Otsutsuki somehow.
Kawaki, while strong, had to work against his will to get that power. He was experimented upon and the ways of fighting were beaten into him by Jigen.
1 BORUTO'S THE RIGHT CHOICE: He Is A Kind-Hearted Person Who Mirrors Naruto
The way of shinobi is all about using chakra to connect people and understand them and their pain. This is something that Boruto Uzumaki is known to do quite well, as seen in several instances throughout the series.
Boruto is a kindhearted ninja who is always willing to risk his life to protect those in need, and this quality of his makes him more suitable for the main character role than Kawaki.
