Chapter 123 of Attack on Titan briefly highlights the events that take place after Eren and the Scouts discover the sea, filling in several blanks in the four-year gap between Seasons 3 and 4. The heroes learn about Marleyan bigotry, and are horrified to find out what people think of them as citizens of the universally hated Paradis.
#123 concludes with Eren's telepathic message to everyone born of Ymir's blood —he declares that he has unhardened "every Wall on the island," and that "the Titans of the Walls will trample and rumble all the lands... until the lives there are eliminated from this world." This event, known as the Rumbling, sets the stage for the final act of the story. Chapter 124 deals with some of the immediate effects of Eren's decision.
10 Eldians Everywhere Hear Eren's Announcement
The very first scene shows the Eldian community in the Marleyan shopping market, each of the Eldians struck voiceless by Eren's revelation.
What's more interesting is that a side-character mentions that he "was suddenly in a strange place," implying that every single Eldian is telepathically transported to the Coordinate. This location is the place that Ymir has resided in for over two thousand years. Unfortunately, very few Marleyans take this seriously.
9 Eren De-Hardens The Armored Titan
Reiner collapses from weakness, shocking Gabi, but not as much when she learns that the Armored Titan's protective plates had shattered.
He states that this event was in sync with the destruction of the Walls of Paradis, which signifies that Eren used the powers of the Founding Titan. Reiner also adds that Eren has the ability "to control all Titans and Subjects of Ymir as he sees fit" while admitting defeat to Gabi.
8 Gabi Goes On The Hunt For Falco
Gabi is far too confident in her own abilities to be discouraged by Reiner's pessimism —instead, she finds a warm, safe place for him to rest (along with food and water).
She then says, "like I'd give up... wait for me Falco," before tying her hair up and arming herself with her iconic gun. Gabi leaves the sleeping Reiner behind, promising him that she's going to "bring everyone back."
7 Eren's Friends Figure Out The Reason Behind The Rumbling
Mikasa, Connie, Jean, and Armin watch the walls collapse and understand that everything beyond Paradis is about to turn to dust. Jean tries to rationalize Eren's horrific choice, claiming that the world had always hated them for being "devils" and that "this is the result those outsiders brought upon themselves."
Although this theory is quickly discarded, Jean has a secondary epiphany —he tells everyone Eren "sacrificed all of humanity... in order to protect us," and that "the ones to reap the benefits of the massacre" are his friends.
6 Connie Tries To Restore His Mother To Normal
Jean gags and binds Falco, currently the new inheritor of the Jaw Titan, and suggests to Mikasa that feeding the boy to Dot Pyxis would be a solution. At this point, Connie demands that they give Falco to his mother, who had been turned into a Titan a few years ago.
Armin's attempts at logic and strategy don't work on the bereaved son; Connie furiously yells that he's "bringing [his] mom back to life." The heated discussion is subsequently interrupted by a Pure Titan attack.
5 Gabi Pays Her Dues To Kaya
As the various Leonhart orphans escape through the alleys of the city, they are pursued by a Titan until Kaya accidentally falls down a flight of stairs. The Titan leaps in after the little girl, an event that gives her a traumatic flashback to when she lost her mother in a very similar manner.
She pleads for her "sister" (Sasha Braus) to come rescue her, but this time it's Gabi who saves her life by firing her rifle directly into the Titan's mouth. A fitting resolution to the conflict between Kaya and Gabi, indeed.
4 Keith Shadis Joins The Battle
As the Military Police are being devoured by the Titans, they are about to lose hope when an unexpected character enters the battle. Keith Shadis, the ex-Commander of the Scout Regiment, redeems himself for resigning from his previous post by saving a Military troop member.
He screams at the remaining survivors, telling them that he doesn't "remember teaching [them] to sit there and cower when... facing down a Titan."
3 Armin Kills Dot Pyxis (In Titan Form)
The Scout Regiment and the Military Police, or what's left of them, band together to escape the marauding Titans. They work as a single unit, taking their enemies out one by one with their thunder spears.
At this point, Armin notices a Titan bearing a striking resemblance to his old mentor, Dot Pyxis, and recalls all the times the Commander had helped them. Armin thanks Pyxis for everything, in spirit because Pure Titans possess no sapience, before killing him with a shot to the nape.
2 Gabi Makes A Sound Argument
Gabi and the Leonharts meet up with the Scouts, and she begs them to return Falco to her. They inform her that Connie took the boy away to help his mother return to normal, but Gabi simply asks them if Eren can "turn Connie's mom back to a human."
Considering that the Founding Titan does possess such power, it's a reasonable argument to make. What's impressive, however, is that a twelve-year-old child wonders why Eren wants to commit genocide rather than merely destroy "all the world's military facilities."
1 Annie Is Awakened After Four Years
When Gabi reveals that Reiner's Armored Titan has been incapacitated by having his armor stripped off, Armin comes to a rather terrifying realization: that the same thing must have happened to Annie Leonhart, who had been preserved in crystal for the past four years.
The scene cuts to the Scout Regiment's underground chambers, where Annie is shown coughing on the floor, surrounded by shards of broken glass and a mysterious liquid.
