Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's upcoming DC Extended Universe film Black Adam has found a new cast member in the form of Uli Latukefu, one of Johnson's counterparts on the NBC sitcom Young Rock.
Per Deadline, Latukefu has boarded Black Adam in an undisclosed role. Latukefu is one of three actors who stars as a younger version of Johnson on NBC's Young Rock. More specifically, he plays a college-aged Rock during the former WWE Champion's time playing football for the University of Miami. Latukefu landed the role after being hand-picked by Johnson himself.
A spinoff of the 2019 DCEU film Shazam!, Black Adam stars Johnson as the eponymous anti-hero, who is the errant champion of the wizard Shazam. As previously mentioned, Latukefu's DCEU role is being kept under wraps. So, while one could speculate that the Young Rock star is playing a younger version of Johnson's Black Adam, he could also be playing a different character entirely.
Black Adam was originally scheduled to open in theaters this December. However, the film was delayed indefinitely after the start of production was put on hold as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This past March, it was announced that the film would now open on July 29, 2022. Johnson announced the start of filming earlier this month.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam stars Dwayne Johnson, Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Pierce Brosnan, Quintessa Swindell, Mo Amer, Marwan Kenzari, Bodhi Sabongui, James Cusati-Moyer, Sarah Shahi and Uli Latukefu. The film arrives in theaters July 29, 2022.
