Ramy star and stand-up comedian Mo Amer is joining the cast of Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam film.
According to Deadline, details regarding Amer's part are not know at the moment, much like many other aspects of the film. Amer joins James Cusati-Moyer and Bodhi Sabongui, who were both also recently cast in mysterious roles. Cusati-Moyer is best known for his role as Dustin in Jeremy O. Harris' Slave Play, and has also appeared in The Path and Prodigal Son. Sabongui is the founder and head of a civil rights club at his school, where he focuses on the Black Lives Matter movement, gender quality and LGBTQ rights.
The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie will follow Johnson's titular antihero, who is best known for being an enemy of the DCEU hero Shazam. While plot details for the film are under wraps, the movie is confirmed to feature members of the Justice Society of America, including Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell' Cyclone, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate. Sarah Shahi has also joined the cast, but her role is yet to be confirmed. However, her DC Comics research point to her portraying Isis, an Egyptian woman who is turned into a godlike being thanks to the Amulet of Isis. There are also reports that if Black Adam does well at the box office, DC will move forward with a Justice Society spinoff.
Black Adam is one of many films Warner Bros. and DC have in the works based on their iconic comic book characters, including The Batman, The Suicide Squad, The Flash, Aquaman 2, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Batgirl, Static Shock and Wonder Woman 3. The company also has TV spinoff series based The Batman and The Suicide Squad character Peacemaker going to HBO Max. Unlike Warner Bros. 2021 slate, which saw films debut in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, some of these films will debut exclusively in theaters.
Black Adam's release date has been shuffled around due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the film is now set to premiere on July 29, 2022. Production began a few days ago.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam stars Dwayne Johnson, Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Quintessa Swindell, Pierce Brosnan, Marwan Kenzari, Sarah Shahi, James Cusati-Moyer, Bodhi Sabongui and Mo Amer. The film arrives in theaters July 29, 2022.
