With Ryan Coogler returning to direct and an anticipated summer start to filming in Atlanta, Marvel Studio's Black Panther 2 has gained a working title, according to Production Weekly.
The film will go by the fitting name Summer Break while in production. Also known as tentative titles, these names are generally picked by the directors. They exist both as placeholders until the final, official titles are chosen and to disguise any potential spoilers for new or hidden plot points as long as possible.
Marvel has a rich history of working titles due to the need for as much secrecy as possible on its films. Some other recent titles include The Big Salad for Taika Waititi's Thor: Love & Thunder, Quantumania = Dust Bunny in place of Ant-Man & The Wasp and Goat Rodeo for Captain Marvel 2 from Nia DaCosta.
Not many details have been revealed for Black Panther 2, but multiple executives from Marvel and Boseman's co-stars have confirmed that the late Chadwick Boseman will not be inserted into the film digitally. It is still not known who may take on the mantle of the hero or what else is planned for the plot of the film.
Both Michael B. Jordan and Martin Freeman have either shown interest in returning or confirmed that they will for the sequel. It has also been reported that other stars like Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong'o, Angela Bassett and Daniel Kaluuya will return as well. There is also a Wakanda spinoff series in development for Disney+ with Ryan Coogler involved.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther 2 arrives in theaters July 8, 2022.
