DC Teases Arrival of a New Black Lantern in Infinite Frontier

Infinite Frontier will see the debut of an all-new Black Lantern.

The revelation was made by Infinite Frontier writer Joshua Williamson, who posted the cover to Infinite Frontier #5 on Twitter. "The mystery of Infinite Frontier continues..." Williamson wrote. The cover features a gloved hand shattering apart, with a Black Lantern ring hovering above it. Mitch Gerards (Mister Miracle, Strange Adventures) provided the illustration for the cover.

The Black Lanterns first appeared in the Blackest Night storyline in 2009, which featured the Lord of the Unliving Nekron forming the Black Lantern Corps to extinguish all life and emotion in the universe. The Black Lanterns were destroyed by the White Lanterns during the events of Blackest Night, although the Black Hand would later become a Black Lantern during the New 52. During the events of Dark Nights: Death Metal, Batman used a Black Lantern ring to keep himself alive -- even resurrecting other heroes to battle against the Batman Who Laughs.

The Infinite Frontier miniseries will explore the DC Multiverse, which was reborn in the aftermath of Dark Nights: Death Metal. Major players in the series include President Superman and Green Lantern Alan Scott, alongside the newly resurrected Roy Harper. The Infinite Frontier one-shot helped set up multiple plot threads for the six-issue miniseries.

Infinite Frontier #1 by Joshua Williamson and Xermanico with covers by Mitch Gerads goes on sale June 22 from DC.
