The creative team behind the highly-anticipated Deathloop video game announced it has delayed the release of the action-adventure game until Fall 2021.
In a short video posted on the official Deathloop Twitter account, game directors Dinga Bakaba and Sebastien Mitton explained they have "made the very hard decision to delay the launch of Deathloop until September 14, 2021."
Specifically, Bakaba revealed, "At Arkane, we have a specific vision for Deathloop and we don't want to compromise on that. But we also need to do everything we can to ensure the health and the safety of everyone in the studio." Mitton added, "So we will be using this extra time to accomplish our goal of creating a fun, stylish and mind-bending player experience."
The pair ended the video by apologizing for the wait and thanking fans for their "passion and excitement" ahead of the game's release, noting, "it's the fuel that powers our creativity and our hard work." Bakaba and Mitton also posted an official statement on Twitter that echoed their sentiments from the video.
Being developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The official synopsis for Deathloop reads,
DEATHLOOP transports you to the mysterious island of Blackreef, where an eternal struggle between two extraordinary assassins will determine the island's future. As Colt, you must find a way to put an end to the time loop trapping the island in an endless cycle, all while being hunted by the island's inhabitants. Using your powerful weapons and abilities, you'll need to take out 8 key targets across the stunning, yet chaotic, island before the day resets in order to break the loop once and for all. But lurking in the shadows is rival assassin Julianna whose sole mission is to take Colt out and keep the loop going. Learn from each cycle, try new paths and approaches, and break the loop.
Arkane Studios announced back in November that there will be two versions of the game, the Standard and Deluxe editions, with the usual pre-order bonuses such as character skins, weapon cosmetics and even some unique weapons. The creators also promise on the Bethesda website that Deathloop "will leverage the console's graphics to bring Arkane's unique artistic vision to life like never before and will take advantage of new cutting edge features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, to make each encounter feel unique and impactful."
Arkane is probably best known for its Dishonored series but has also developed Prey and previously worked on a selection of the Wolfenstein games. Deathloop is now set for release on Sept. 14, 2021, for PlayStation 5 and Windows, with plans to launch on Xbox a year later.
