Part of the fun of watching Matt Groening's various animated series is looking for Easter Eggs that connect them. That's certainly true of Disenchantment, which has more than a few subtle nods to both Futurama and The Simpsons. However, there is one potential connecting point that might be a lot bigger than some viewers have realized. In fact, it could be the beginning of one of the biggest companies in New New York.
At its core, the story of Disenchantment revolves around the kingdom of Dreamland. It's a medieval setting that is loaded with magic, wizards and a shocking variety of mythical creatures. There's even an enchanted forest filled with fairies and talking animals who will happily rob anyone who enters their home.
Dreamland isn't the only other kingdom around. There's Dankmire, a former enemy who became an ally when King Zøg married Oona. Dreamland also has problems with another kingdom named Maru, which was Dagmar's homeland. While they seemed to be quite prominent at first, Maru hasn't been a factor since early in Part 2. These days, the main threat to Dreamland seems to be Steamland, which is like a Steampunk fever dream come to life.
At the core of the city is a man named Alva Gunderson, who appears to be one of the wealthiest people in Steamland and a core leader in the community. His factories make many of the steam powered items used in the land, not to mention several other impressive advancements that will change the citizen's lives for the better.
One of Alva's greatest inventions are the security robots he designed. In Part 3, Episode 5, Alva sent the robots after Bean and Elfo, but Bean was able to defeat them with what seemed to be a blast of pure magic. While there are still questions to answer surrounding that whole deal, there's also something surprisingly familiar about Alva Gunderson and his work. It's more than a little reminiscent of Mom's Friendly Robot Company.
On Futurama, Mom's was an absolutely key company. It developed and released many of the most prominent robots on the series, including Bender. Professor Farnsworth also used to work for the company and was the former lover of Carol Miller, aka Mom. She is tough as nails and would slap the collective tastes out of her own sons' mouths for looking at her the wrong way.
The fact that Alva is an incredibly wealthy person of industry whose company has started to mass produce rudimentary artificial intelligence could mean that his company may evolve into Mom's Friendly Robot Company, especially since neither is all that friendly. Afterall, they're both run by greedy, power hungry people who want to take control of as much of their respective worlds as possible.
This doesn't mean that Mom is a descendent of Alva, just that Mom's Friendly Robot Company could be a descendent of Gunderson's company. He could have started the research and development that eventually led to Mom's dominance in the marketplace centuries in the future. It also wouldn't be that surprising to find out that Alva was Mom's ancestor, with both sharing similar moral compasses as corrupt individuals.
