Falcon and Winter Soldier’s Cut Storyline May Get a Second Life

A storyline that was rumored to have been cut from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier may get a second life in the form of a comic book.

In an interview with the podcast Fade To Black, showrunner Malcolm Spellman was asked about a rumored plotline that involved a pandemic that was cut due to its similarity to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. Referring to the rumored cut, Spellman said, "I've been told to stop saying that. I loved it and it had nothing to do with the pandemic... I want to see if we can get some of the writers to do a book run on it because I think Kevin [Feige] does it. I've been told to stop talking about it."

Feige is president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment, giving him plenty of say in both the movies/TV series and comics that take place in the Marvel Universe.

While Spellman did not clarify which cut plotline he was referring to, he previously said he and director Kari Skogland worked up a larger arc for Joaquin Torres. However, due to the six-episode limit, some of his story had to be removed from the final product.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier picks up after the events of AvengersEndgame, as Sam and Bucky struggle with the legacy of Steve Rogers and his mighty shield. While Steve gave the shield to Sam at the end of Endgame, Sam returns it to the government with the hope it would retire the title. Instead, John Walker is appointed to the role, leading to drastic consequences for everyone involved.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is Marvel Studios' second hit for Disney+, following its debut series of WandaVision. Other Marvel series planned for the streamer include Loki, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Secret Invasion, Armor Wars, Ironheart, Echo and a drama based on the nation of Wakanda. The animated What If...? is also expected to premiere in the summer.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series is available on Disney+.
