While the Power Broker might be behind villains in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, they're responsible for creating a number of superheroes in the Marvel Universe. In particular, he is responsible for creating one of the lesser-known members of the Fantastic Four: Sharon Ventura, the She-Thing.
Sharon Ventura first debuted in 1983's Thing #27 by Mike Carlin and Ron Wilson. She was the daughter of a career military officer, but her father never really gave Sharon any recognition for her achievements. After he passed away, Sharon began engaging in a number of dangerous physical jobs before eventually meeting Ben Grimm. Ben was working inside the Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation at the time. The two started a relationship, but Sharon was not ready for anything serious quite yet. Their relationship inspired her to join the UCWF. There was just one problem though: She had no superpowers.
Enter Auntie Freeze, a manager for a group of female wrestlers named the Grapplers. She told Sharon that the young woman could get what she wanted if she volunteered for the Power Broker's augmentation program. Sharon, not knowing that the Power Broker was a criminal, readily signed up. The results were only partially successful, both for Sharon and the Power Broker. As she neared the completion of her treatments, Sharon realized that she was cheating herself by simply augmenting her body artificially. She escaped before the final drug could be administered, which was actually highly addictive and would have made her totally dependent on the administrator, Dr. Karl Malus. But, much to Sharon's surprise, the major components necessary to give her super strength had already been administered and she now had her own powers.
Sharon returned to Auntie Freeze and joined the grapplers, taking on the name Ms. Marvel. But Auntie Freeze was soon notified of Sharon's escape and ordered the other Grapplers to capture her. Fortune once again favored Sharon when the Thing arrived to help her out of that particular bind. After a series of harrowing adventures, Sharon was invited to join the Fantastic Four, once again reconnecting with the Thing. That's when things started to get really weird for Sharon.
While stopping an electronic terrorist in space, the shuttle that Sharon and the Thing were on was badly damaged. They managed to crash land the shuttle in Wakanda, but during the descent to Earth, the ship was bombarded by the same cosmic rays that created the Fantastic Four. The energy mutated Ben even and turned Sharon into a female Thing, later known as She-Thing.
Sharon suffered from the same ostracisation from society that Ben did. So when Doctor Doom offered to cure her in return for her service, Sharon agreed. She returned to spy on the Fantastic Four later for Doom, but when he demanded she fully turn on them, she refused. She and Ben restarted their relationship and Doom's demand to kill her teammates finally made Sharon see what a monster he was. The damage was done though, Ben could not accept that she would willingly side with Doom even after she turned against him. To make matters worse, Doom had reversed his cure for her condition. She was now mutated even further with a degenerated mental state.
She-Thing spent the next few years acting as an occasional enemy to the Fantastic Four before eventaully coming to terms with her new state of being. The last time she was seen, Sharon had returned to the Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation, but now seemed to have returned to her human form. Or at least, somehow gaining the ability to shift between the two forms she now had. Either way, it seems that Sharon finally made peace with herself and found a place in the world.
