WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Mayans M.C. Season 3, Episode 8, "A Mixed-Up and Splendid Rescue," which aired Tuesday on FX.
At the end of Mayans M.C.'s previous episode, Leticia Cruz found her father, Coco, on death's door after he overdosed on heroin while using with his love interest, Hope. The latest episode of the series, "A Mixed-Up and Splendid Rescue," reveals just what happened to Coco and, although he may have survived his overdose, the Santo Padre Mayan might not be safe just yet.
"A Mixed-Up and Splendid Rescue" opens with Leticia unsuccessfully trying to rouse Coco. However, she's loud enough that Hope does wake up. Hope springs into action and grabs a naloxone syringe from her bag and stabs it into Coco, reversing his overdose and saving his life. After getting revived, Leticia confronts Coco about what happened. For his part, the Santo Padre Mayan does admit that he needs to get clean and that he needs help. Coco then informs Letica that both he and Hope will get clean together. Leticia, though, scoffs at the idea. Her opinion of Hope -- who played a big role in getting Coco addicted to heroin -- is understanbly low.
Soon, Leticia and Hope talk in the backyard. While Hope tries to apologize to Leticia, the young Cruz refuses to give her father's girlfriend any forgiveness. While the two do find a bit of common ground in their experiences with abusive mothers, Leticia explains that she's unhappy with the way Coco's addiction has stopped him from considering her at all. From there, Leticia grills Hope about whether she'll really get clean. In the end, Hope's answers don't prove convincing.
And Leticia ends up being totally right about Hope. Later that night, Hope and Coco are going through withdrawals. Soon, though, Hope leaves an unconscious Coco to fend for himself. While it's not clear just where Hope goes, there's a good chance that she's heading back to Meth Mountain, where she'll continue using.
The injuries that Coco sustained in Mayans M.C. Season 2 have had a major effect on his psyche and trying to get his next fix has led to a ton of problems. Isaac, one of the major figures on Meth Mountain, is blackmailing Coco into stealing heroin for him, using the fact that the Santo Padre Mayans don't approve of intravenous drug use to his advantage. So before anything else can happen, Coco will have to find a way to end Isaac's blackmail once and for all, whether through murder or confessing the truth to his brothers. Still, stealing drugs from one's motorcycle club is a death sentence, and even if he sobers up, Coco may have to contend with what he did while using.
Coco's repeated absences from Santo Padre Mayans business have also hurt his relationships with the club. Elsewhere in "A Mixed-Up and Splendid Rescue," Santo Padre President Bishop tells Gilly (who has been covering for Coco), that the wayward Mayan must appear at their next meeting or else essentially be kicked out of the club. As such, the road to recovery for Coco is unlikely to be an easy one, and although he survived his overdose, he's certainly not safe just yet.
Created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, Mayans M.C. stars J.D. Pardo, Clayton Cardenas, Sarah Bolger, Michael Irby, Carla Baratta, Richard Cabral, Raoul Trujillo, Danny Pino, Edward James Olmos and Emilio Rivera.
