WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Mighty Morphin #6 by Ryan Parrott, Marco Renna, Walter Baiamonte, Katia Ranalli, Sara Antonellini and Ed Dukeshire, on sale now.
To say that the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers have been having a rough time lately would be an understatement. Currently, their city Angel Grove is cut off from the outside world by a forcefield of Lord Zedd's making. Nearly a month has passed already since the city was taken over, and the United States government is closing on a nuclear option.
But in Mighty Morphin #6, another new ally, a Bronze Guardian of Eltar, has revealed themselves just when they are needed most, and she could be the most powerful Sixth Ranger that the series has ever seen.
After yet another failed attempt to get through the forcefield, the Rangers return to the Command Center to regroup and recoup until the next time they go out into the field. While the majority of the team takes some time to catch their breath and gather their thoughts, Zordon and Billy are catching up with Zelya, a fellow Eltarian. She has been sent to Earth to determine the state of things on the planet before Eltar seriously considers revealing its existence to humanity. Beyond being from the same homeworld, Zelya and Zordon share one other very specific thing in common, as the Rangers find out when they finally get another shot at breaching the dome that has been keeping them out of Angel Grove.
In the midst of battle against another wave of Lord Zedd's new Chaos Putties, Zelya suits up and leaps into the fray for herself as the Bronze Guardian of Eltar. This is the exact same mantle that Zordon carried when he was a Guardian of Eltar thousands of years ago, and it seems that not much has changed regarding just how effective the Guardians are on the battlefield. Where the Power Rangers were faltering and in need of assistance, Zelya clears the way for them to retake their ground with a single devastating blow.
In her glimmering armor, Zelya makes quick work of every single one of Zedd's foot soldiers that gets in her way, and as soon as the dome begins to open up, she charges through it right alongside the other heroes. With no telling just how bad things are within the city, there's no better backup than an actual Guardian of Eltar.
As shocking as Zelya's latest reveal is, it really shouldn't come as any surprise. Her reconnaissance mission is the exact same sort of undertaking that Zordon was frequently tasked with during his own time as a Guardian. It's a particularly convenient coincidence that a Guardian of Eltar should be on Earth just when the planet needs one most, although there is little doubt that this will open the door for further exploration of these ancient, prototypical Power Rangers.
