Pixar's Soul won the 2021 Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
The Jamie Foxx-starring animated film beat out fellow competitors A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, Onward, Over the Moon and Wolfwalkers at the 93rd Annual Academy Awards. Soul was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Sound and Best Original Score.
Shortly after the Oscar win, Pixar tweeted, "Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of #PixarSoul on winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature! #Oscars."
Soul tells the story of an aspiring jazz musician Joe Gardner who works as a middle school music teacher. After a tragic accident, he seeks to reunite his soul and his body after they are accidentally separated hours before his big musical break. Music from the film was inspired by a middle school jazz band out of Oakland, California.
At the time of this writing, the 2021 Oscar for Best Sound went to The Sound of Metal. The winner for the Oscar for Best Original Score has yet to be announced by the Academy.
Directed by Pete Docter and Kemp Powers, Soul stars Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Questlove, Phylicia Rashad, Daveed Diggs and Angela Bassett. The film is currently available on Disney+.
