The Walking Dead released a teaser for Season 11 that reveals the final season premiere date -- Sunday, Aug. 22.
"Coming off of the six additional episodes for Season 10, which focused on smaller, character-driven stories, we're excited to kick off Season 11 bigger than ever," The Walking Dead showrunner and executive producer Angela Kang said in a statement. "The stakes will be high – we'll see more zombies, tons of action, intriguing new stories, never-before-seen locations and our groups together in one community for the first time, trying to rebuild what the Whisperers took from them."
Season 11 launches with eight episodes that take the show into its expanded, 24-episode final season. Based on the Image Comics series by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard, The Walking Dead debuted Oct. 31, 2010 on AMC and centers on the survivors of a zombie apocalypse and the communities they form, as well as the shifting alliances those tribes reach with each other. The show spawned TV spinoffs Fear the Walking Dead, which was renewed for a Season 7, and the two-season limited series The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Other spinoffs and tie-in films have also been announced.
"The final chapter of The Walking Dead begins with eight action-packed episodes that will feature the massive scope and scale fans have come to expect from TWD Universe, and I'm thrilled to share that fans won't have to wait long for these incredible new episodes to debut this summer," TWD Universe Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple said.
The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton and Cooper Andrews. The series airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC and is available to stream early on AMC+.
