Warrior Will Have to Rebuild Most Of Its Sets for Season 3 | CBR

Creators of the hit martial arts television show Warrior revealed that most of its sets will have to be rebuilt for Season 3 -- due to the delay in renewing the series.

"Our Chinatown backlot is still standing in [Cape Town, South Africa]," showrunner, writer and co-creator Jonathan Tropper told Inverse. "It will need significant refurbishment, but it's there. All our interior sets, like the Hop Wei headquarters and Ah Toy's brothel, those sets are gone and will have to be rebuilt." However, he added, "That's the beauty of this industry. The plans exist, the people who make them exist, and they can be rebuilt to the detail."

The Warrior showrunner continued, "We’re not the first show to have to do this. We’re confident we can bring them back pretty much how they were, except now we know where to sneak a few lights to make shooting easier." Tropper also confirmed that Warrior has plans for stories beyond Season 3, stating it would be "way too much work to pull this all back together for one season."

Reflecting on Warrior's future, executive producer and co-creator Shannon Lee, daughter of late martial arts legend Bruce Lee stated, "The energy of my father is all around the show, everyone involved feels it. His story has been called an underdog story, even though when you look at the man 'underdog' is not the first word that comes to mind. What Jonathan said at the top: Nobody was willing to concede. Frankly, my father was not willing to concede either."

Based on the writings of Bruce Lee, the first two seasons of Warrior aired on Cinemax before the television network stopped production on all original programming. It was confirmed on April 14 that the show had been renewed for a third season that will stream exclusively on HBO Max. The series is co-created by Shannon Lee, Jonathan Tropper and Justin Lin.

Following news of the show's Season 3 renewal, Lee stated, "Justin, Jonathan, and I were thrilled when Warrior was put on HBO platforms to be discovered by a whole new legion of fans. Now we are excited and grateful for the opportunity to do another season, and we applaud HBO Max for understanding the importance of telling this story and for continuing to support this level of representation in our industry."

Warrior stars Andrew Koji, Olivia Cheng, Dianne Doan and Joe Taslim. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently available to stream on HBO Max, while Season 3 has yet to receive a release date.
