Throughout the annals of DC history, Arthur Curry has shown off several power moves that reflect his status as the King of the Seven Seas. While he might be most famous for telepathically communicating with sea creatures, it's the shark attack where he commands giant creatures like sharks and megalodons in battle that truly strikes fear into opponents.
Now in Sensational Wonder Woman #12, Diana of Themyscira copies Aquaman's deadliest move, and she uses it to torture her enemies into submission in a way that Aquaman never has.
Diana's taken prisoner on Paradise Island when Queen Bee invades and brainwashes the Amazons. She also has her own league of villains so Wonder Woman knows she's outnumbered, especially as she can't risk fighting back and hurting her sisters or her mom, Queen Hippolyta. She plays to Bee's ego, though, and asks for a gauntlet match against her generals, with Diana admitting she'll join them if she loses.
It goes according to plan, as she beats Blue Snowman, as well as Silver Swan. However, when she faces Giganta, she runs into problems, until she lures the behemoth to the beach. Unsuspecting, Giganta wades into dangerous waters literally, which leads to the megs attacking her. While this is a brutal trap, it's also one where Diana makes it clear she can't do anything.
It's a deft lie as Diana has used this ability before with sharks, but in the panic, Queen Bee doesn't suss out that Diana's playing her. Dr. Poison admits that Bee can't control the sea creatures, due to the strength of the Amazons' telepathic link. It's quite a gamble as Diana leaves Giganta to be bitten, knowing the longer Queen Bee takes to free the Amazons, the higher her chances of dying are.
Queen Bee doesn't call her bluff and allows some of the warriors to save Giganta. But as this happens, Diana attacks the telepath, knocking her down and making it clear if she fights back, there'll be hell to pay. It's a shocking move to see Diana ruthlessly risking an enemy's life like this, but it's clear that desperate times call for desperate measures.
Thankfully, no one's killed or gored, with Hippolyta later extracting justice of her own. She punishes the villains by making them fight each other in the colosseum for the Amazons' pleasure, grateful that Diana came home. More so, she's glad to see how ruthless her daughter could be in a move that would leave Aquaman impressed at how his colleague fought to protect her kingdom from a hostile takeover.
