When Naruto was first introduced, he was surrounded by capable ninja. He didn't have the same skill as those around him. The people of Boruto's generation tend to echo those of previous generations. As such, there are many similarities between the people Naruto grew up with and those who grew up with his son.
While the ninja of Boruto's generation no doubt have a lot of potential, they have not yet shown as much promise as their Naruto counterparts. The ninja of Boruto's generation will likely take over for the previous generation someday, and for the future of Konoha, it is important that his generation surpass those who came before them.
10 Shino Couldn't Connect With His Students Like Iruka
Shino was an incredibly quiet person. Back when he was a student, he never did a great job connecting with his classmates. While he had friends, they all thought he was a bit odd. Meanwhile, Iruka seemed to have been the perfect teacher.
Iruka did a good job of connecting with his students and teaching them all the things they would need to know in life. When Shino became a teacher, his students thought he was somewhat incompetent, which was an accusation never thrown at Iruka.
9 Wasabi's Animal-Like Powers Weren't As Useful As Kiba's
Kiba and Wasabi both have animal-like powers. Kiba's strong sense of smell and bond with his animal partner have proved to be useful in battle.
Wasabi had cat-like traits she gained from her fuinjutsu abilities. Wasabi also trained in medical jutsu from a young age, though she isn't known for having exceptional medical skills. Since Kiba was born with some of his abilities, his abilities don't have a time limit in the way Wasabi's abilities do.
8 Hoki Is Overshadowed By Kakashi's Memory & Leadership Skills
Hoki was heavily inspired by Kakashi. He likes to dress like the former Hokage and even wears his forehead protector over his eye like Kakashi did. When Hoki and his team are assigned to work at the post office, he gets a chance to meet his idol.
It is revealed that Hoki has an excellent memory, which is a reference to Kakashi's own ability to remember things with the aid of his Sharingan. Hoki is also shown to have leadership skills, though his leadership skills pale in comparison to Kakashi's. Even in his youth, Kakashi's skills as a prodigy would have been much greater than Hoki's abilities.
7 Shinki's Redemption Story Can't Compare To Gaara's
After meeting Naruto, Gaara's life greatly changes. Gaara goes from being an angry, unloving kid to realizing he isn't alone. Gaara begins to show kindness and form good relationships with the people around him.
Shinki experienced some of the same darkness in his life. His biological parents are a mystery. When Gaara found him, he was alone and didn't have control over his powers. Gaara was willing to take in Shinki even after Shinki attacked him. Shinki's darkest moments were never shown, so his redemption doesn't ring as important as Gaara's.
6 Chocho Doesn't Have Choji's Wide Range Of Jutsu
Choji was deeply insecure about his weight, and his weight seemed to conceal his incredible strength. In fact, he was literally able to convert his extra calories into physical strength.
Chocho also has the ability to convert calories into strength. Chocho was trained by her father, so it makes sense that her techniques were similar to his. Despite that fact, Chocho didn't seem to have the wide range of jutsu her father had at her age.
5 Konohamaru Didn't Always Come Across As Stronger Than His Students The Way Kakashi Did
Konohamaru and Kakashi both had to achieve the rank of Jonin before they could be put in charge of their own three-man teams. From early on, Kakashi's skills were obviously greater than the rest of his team.
Konohamaru's greatest accomplishment was defeating one of the paths of Pain in his youth. Since then, he seems to have regressed. Konohamaru's students often come across as more powerful than him.
4 Sumire's Training With Root Didn't Prepare Her As Well As Sai
Sumire's abilities could be compared to both Naruto and Sai. Like Sai, she had been raised as a soldier. Like Naruto, she had a dangerous beast sealed inside her body.
Sumire hasn't been shown to have abilities of the same caliber as her predecessors. Despite all of her training, she struggles to keep control of Nue. Sai was able to prove his impressive skill from his introduction, but Sumire has failed to do the same.
3 Shikadai Seems Incapable Of Making The Hard Choices Shikamaru Had To Make
Shikamaru is a gifted strategist. He sometimes comes across as only caring about the strategic value of an idea and doesn't allow his emotions to get in the way of his thought processes.
Shikadai isn't quite as cold and emotionless as his father. When Shikadai was sent to capture his best friend, he ended up siding with Boruto. He made the emotional decision to side with his best friend over his village. It's possible that this decision-making process will prove to be a disservice to both Shikadai and Konoha in the future.
2 Sarada Doesn't Have The Drive That Sasuke Had
After the death of his clan, Sasuke dedicated himself to destroying his older brother. Sasuke trained for long hours, honing his skill as a ninja. As a result, he became one of the strongest ninja in his generation.
Sarada lacks the drive her father had. She has grown up in a time of peace and longs to become the Hokage, but doesn't seem to have the resolve to make that happen. It will take a lot of training for her to stack up against her genius father.
1 Metal Lee Doesn't Have The Confidence Or Charisma Of Rock Lee
Rock Lee was never able to properly control his chakra. Despite that fact, he trained hard in taijutsu and managed to become a great ninja. His outgoing and confident personality helped him to befriend those around him.
Metal Lee didn't have his father's confidence. While his skills were great, he tended to freeze up when he had to show his skills in front of other people. His lack of confidence also seems to hold him back when it comes to forming relationships with others.
