WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Final Space Season 3, Episode 7, "The Chamber of Doubt" which aired Saturday on Adult Swim.
As Invictus' power grows stronger by the minute, Gary and the Galaxy 2 crew suffer a major loss and some confusing changes. Quinn is somewhat healed from her poisoning and is looking more like Nightfall than ever before while Ash has been aged up after a trip to Invictus' realm. Plus, Gatekeeper makes his return after his Season 1 appearance with the news of Bolo's infection, commanding the team to help save the last good Titan in all of Final Space. Unfortunately, the trip ends on a heartbreaking note as a member of the Galaxy 2 team loses their life by Gary's hand.
Following up from last week's revelations, Quinn and Ash begin to question the people they have become, worrying if the physical changes they endured would become the death of the people they once were. However, Quinn is confident that whatever happens to her, she will remain Quinn -- at least for now. While this is happening, the Gatekeeper teleports into the Galaxy 2 and warns the team that Bolo is in danger. Once they reach him, they notice his eyes are purple, a telltale mark of Invictus' poisoning. The Gatekeeper convinces them to go back into Bolo's mind and find his last spark of sanity, which will help cure him. Failure to do so will truly leave the Galaxy 2 alone without the help of a Titan.
Once inside Bolo's mind, the scene is vastly darker than it was the last time they were there. Darkness has overtaken his mind, and Bolo's doubts have manifested into physical forms, which try to take the Galaxy 2 down. Bolo's spark of sanity manages to rip Ash away from the team, bringing her to the chamber of doubt, the source of his new madness.
Once inside, Bolo takes Ash to someone she does not expect to see, Fox. Ash is unsure if Fox is himself, so she asks him to tell her the story of his origin. Audiences learn that before gaining his gun-arm, Fox had dreams of becoming a musician, but the war forced him to become a soldier. Comforted by this, the siblings hug, but Fox is still under Invictus' control, and Ash's manipulation becomes stronger.
Lost and confused, the Galaxy 2 are unsure of where to go next until the real spark of sanity arrives, warning them that Ash is being deceived by Invictus. The spark helps the Gatekeeper gain the power to teleport the Galaxy 2 to the chamber of doubt in hopes of saving Ash from falling deeper into Invictus' hold. Gary dives down to Ash and Fox, trying his hardest to prevent her from falling under Invictus' spell. However, this is exactly what Invictus wanted, as he possesses Gary's robot arm and forces him to kill Fox.
While this healed Bolo, it is the final straw for Ash, who only sees Gary killing her brother. Ash feels broken after Fox's death, and Bolo's attempts to comfort her by saying Fox was already dead do not help since the others that fell under Invictus' spell survived. Invictus is successful in his mission to try and split the Galaxy 2 team apart by either physically killing them or damaging the friendships they built.
As damaging as this episode is, the promo for next week seems somewhat hopeful as Kevin Van Neuton appears to have fixed the portal to escape Final Space, giving the team a well deserved win after an endless streak of losses.
