Glenn Close Pitches Her Story for a Cruella Sequel | CBR

Oscar nominee Glenn Close says she isn't done with playing Cruella de Vil, the fashion maven she played in two films in the 101 Dalmations franchise.

Close is an executive producer on Cruella, which stars Emma Stone in the titular role and tells the story of her origin in the 1970s punk rock fashion scene in London. But Close told Variety, "I have a great story to make another Cruella with my Cruella: Cruella comes to New York and disappears down the sewers."

Cruella de Vil was introduced in the 1956 children's novel The Hundred and One Dalmations by Dodie Smith. There she was a wealthy, married heiress bent on making coats from the fur of puppies. De vil engineers the theft of the title litter plus dozens of more puppies, prompting parent dogs Pongo and Perdita to come to the rescue. The Walt Disney Company adapted the novel into the 1961 animated movie One Hundred and One Dalmations, which omitted de Vil's husband and gave the animals voices.

Close first starred in the live-action 101 Dalmations in 1996, which updated the tale to contemporary times. The animals did not have voices, and Pongo's and Perdita's owner was now a video game designer, not a songwriter. Close reprised the role in 2000's 102 Dalmations.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, Cruella stars Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser, Joel Fry and Emily Beecham. The film arrives in theaters and on Disney+ Premiere Access May 28.
