Unused concept art from Godzilla vs. Kong gives the Warbat a shocking new ability that was not seen in the film.
The art was posted on Kaiju News Outlet's Twitter account and showcases the Titan with an electric tail. Kong defeated two Warbats when he first arrived in Hollow Earth. While they had wings and a long tail, it was not electrocuted as seen in the artwork.
This is not the first piece of concept art to spotlight the Warbat. Artist Matt Millard posted some of his early designs for the creature on Twitter in mid-April. "The idea was it could tuck his arms up to slither as well as crawl on his giant talons as well as fly," he wrote, describing the art. That illustration also appears to feature a Warbat with an electric tail.
The Warbat had a small role in the MonsterVerse film, serving as antagonists for Kong to quickly dispose of while exploring Hollow Earth. Other monsters the Kong and his team encountered on the other side include Hellhawks and the unnamed crab monsters.
Godzilla vs. Kong is the fourth film in Legendary's MonsterVerse. Previous films include Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019). Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard is currently in talks to helm the next film in the franchise, with a rumored title of Son of Kong. An animated series titled Skull Island set in the same universe will debut on Netflix in the near future.
